So. This was described as a challenging trail and on that front it didn’t fail to deliver. This is a proper hilly course which, on the day was made all the more tricky due to properly grim weather. 50mph winds, lots of mud, rain, fallen trees... the course is challenging but also a little annoying as the first section is a single track with styles etc. So the front runners start to head back (it’s a 5 mile loop) leading to congestion at a number of points. On reflection that’s my only criticism but it would annoy somebody going for a on or podium place.

As ever the IGUN team are truly wonderful and yes, the Pie was tasty and bling rather splendid. Would I run it again? Honestly, as a race no due to the congestion but on my own, absolutely.

Pateley Pie & Pint is multi-lap trail race which consists of 5mile loops. Distance options ranged from 5miles to (30mile) ultra. I entered the marathon but had to drop distance.

The course was quite tough

with varied terrain, hills & mud - lots of mud. There was also several stiles to climb over which cause congestion.

This isn't a PB course by any means but what you do get is a challenging, scenic event.

Finishers received a quality medal (which doubled as a bottle opener), a delicious pie (sourced from local butcher) & a bottle of beer.

There was also plenty of home baked cake, which is a trademark of IGUN events.

In summary-

Brilliant event. Very scenic but also tough.

Medal, beer, pie & home baked cake for finishers so what's there not to love. Thanks IGUN & marshals for another super day.

The weather was rubbish which meant for a truly muddy day, which was both a new challenge and great fun. The course was well signed and the lovely marshals were amazing. Beautiful scenery along the river and great view from the top of the course.

on arriving back I was given a clever and great looking medal (bottle opener), beer, chocolate and a cake selection!!!! So amazing I nearly forgot my pie.

This was such an excellent event. All the event staff put 100% in all day despite the cold and the wind. Such a lovely atmosphere and beautiful route. Would recommend this race to anyone, no matter what their availability.
