This was my second year of running the Nos Galan and the first year that they have held seperate races for the male and female elite runners. There were only 73 runners in the ladies elite race which although daunting at the start line (where would I hide?!?) meant that there was no congestion during the race allowing the course to truly achieve it's PB potential. Great support around the course as always and I ran a 13 sec PB which is always a nice way to end the year!

A great way to end the year with a fantastic atmosphere and fun race.
This was my 3rd Nos Galan race having previously run in 2017 and 2011.
Great evening for runners and supporters with a fireworks display before the Elite race. The Elite race has loads of top athletes so it's great watching them and getting inspired before the fun run starts.
The course had been amended slightly from previous years and now included 4 laps instead of 3. This did mean the laps went by quite quickly although it did also mean there was even more congestion that usual. The important thing to remember is that this is a fun run but for some of the front runners, it did mean by half ways through the second lap, you were already overtaking other runners and adding to the congestion particularly in the out and back section with runners on either side of the road. The organisers may want more of the speedy ones signing up for the Elite race to avoid this as in comparison the Elite race is quite small with minimal congestion.
Overall, a great atmosphere and a great way to end the year.

I'd imagine any issues I experienced would be unique to the fun run!
Firstly, nice course, plenty of local support and impossible to make an error (3 laps). Nice fireworks and overall a great atmosphere!
Filling pens was a slight issue, they were filled from the front, but when the faster runners were in, they obviously didn't want to go back. The more people that came in the harder things got until the organisers gave up and filled from the back. If you're going to make almost 1000 entries I'd think time based areas are the future.
During the run, and due to the laps there was quite a bit of lapping going on, as the course isn't the widest in places this did cause an issue for the front runners. Can't really see a way around this though.
Overall a good night and a different New Years, recommended.

I don't like 5ks, but as long as I'm running I will always run Nos Galan on New Year's Eve. It's a great family event, superb atmosphere, it costs nothing and there is something for everybody with the kids races, elite race, fun run, fireworks, the celebrity runner. It's a fantastic event and I always leave Mountain Ash with a beaming smile on my face having been part of this fabulous community event.

Great novelty race, and brilliant way to say goodbye to the year. An historic race that I really enjoyed running. Very crowded (very popular) with same narrow parts. Amazing support & cheering, even though it was pouring down!
A race I really wish to do again in the future!
