Did the Spires and Shires Ultra yesterday and don't normally do reviews but I really impressed with the whole event so thought I should share that! From start to finish the event was really well organised. The course has bits on it that may confuse some people but if you have the navigation on your watch or with the app then it's absolutely fine, you just have to trust it! Aid stations were morethan ample with lots of smiling helpers. Definitely recommend and will be back next year for the clockwise event! Thanks for putting such a great event 👍👍

This was my first ultra and the event was really well organised. It felt quite understated for a great wide range of races which helps when you have race day nerves. Very seamless registration process, bib collection and start. Loved the route, it was very scenic with differing terrain to keep it interesting. Its not an easy 1st ultra when you have the cut off times to contend with but you know this when you sign up and as it's a UTMB point qualifier, you can expect a bit of a challenge. I would definitely recommend this lovely race to anyone thinking about taking on an ultra

A great event thanks, good organisation and really appreciated the Portaloos in addition to the village hall loos, which so many races would have skimped on. Everyone very friendly. Nice cake and pop at the end. If you want some pointers for improvement, just two things: 1) make several water containers available in parallel at aid stations so multiple runners can fill up at once (I took to using the ones waiting on the ground to avoid losing time); 2) great to have the GPX track provided, but it was inaccurate in places, needs redoing by someone tracing it for real who knows where they're going, not just plotted on the map. I wasted a bit of time and distance trying to reconcile it with reality here and there.

Hi Charles thanks for the lovely review, I can assure you that the GPX file is well tested on the ground as well as being drawn on the screen. As with all electronic devices things are not foolproof and there can be variations as to how different devices view the data. We are working hard with the ridewithgps app to identify where there are decisions based around which side of the hedge to go which can cause some dramas on the route. Hope to see you again soon

My first ultra-marathon, so I'm not going to say that it was 'easy' but if you set off to run 35 miles, you don't expect that. Nevertheless, it was within the capabilities of a first-timer, even in particularly brutal heat this year. Lovely Northamptonshire Countryside. Plenty of helpful and friendly support at the aid stations and at the finish. A reasonably easy route to navigate on a fairly even split of quiet roads and off-road sections, so nobody should get too lost (especially with the GPS trackers). If this sort of distance is going to be your thing, then I'd definitely recommend Spires & Shires as a good introduction.

Excellently organisation of the event. Aid stations were brilliant. The arm sleeves I received at the start were way too big. Shame as would have been a nice compliment. Although the medal was very nice.
