I didn’t like having to run the course twice to make it the full 5k… but my worst complaint was the homemade slip n slide going down a rocky hill. I hit a huge rock at the bottom of it… almost a YEAR later and I’m still having tailbone pain. I shook it off at the time, it was an obstacle course race and there were risks (which is why we sign a waiver) but I never imaged having to deal with tail pain this long! The bruise i had the next day should have been the first sign that it was going to be bad. If you are thinking about running the race this year, just be careful!!!!

I completed the #MudFactorWichita 2021 and I will NEVER do it again. First, in order to get an entire 5K in, you had to run the same course twice. The second time through the course, I literally said “I’m bored” and my friends agreed. The first half of the course is just mud and muddy water which is okay but doing that twice through is just ridiculously lame. There were only 7 actual obstacles and they were mostly packed together at the end. There also was an area of the run where you went through what could only be described as the location’s dump! There was so much junk and the water was disgusting, I thought we would need a tetanus shot afterwards. It was very disappointing.

Also, they seem to nickel and dime you for everything. When someone posted about all the expenses, #MudFactor responded that their pricing is comparable to other 5K mud runs. Well, the ticket price is but the other runs I’ve done don’t charge $20 for parking and not allow you to park somewhere else and walk there, other runs give you a free tshirt, most have free bag check not charge $5 and give you a free beer at the end. Which, let’s be honest, a lot of us really enjoy having a cold beer after one of these things and #MudFactor had no alcohol allowed.

In addition, they sent an email out before the race saying masks were required at registration but only recommended everywhere else. I don’t like masks but I’ll wear one when it’s required. However, when we got to the registration no one was wearing a mask, not even the employees. This is the only place the email said you had to wear one, right? Right! But when you got in the start area, they didn’t allow you in without a mask on. Even though it was less crowded there than it was in the rest of the areas. They literally had bouncers and wouldn’t let you in so a couple of anti-maskers didn’t run and were out their money.

All in all, save your money and find a different run.
