I have completed this race several times - it was my second ever triathlon and I keep going back.
The registration, body marking and racking always goes smoothly. The Mid-Sussex tri club marshals are amazing at calming nerves and so encouraging and smiley even first thing in the morning.
The briefing is fun and there are spot prizes availiable during the awards ceremony afterwards - I am never very lucky :(. Everyone gets free race photos to download as part of the entry fee.
It is a 400m snake swim which I find daunting but as long as you place yourself appropriately (and those around you do) you should have a trouble free swim and a decent 400m TT time.
The bike is undulating with an uphill drag quite near the beginning but no hills to speak of making it beginner friendly.
The run is an out and back with a really well marshalled road crossing. Due to the staggered start and out and back nature of the course you see most of the competitors on the run so it's a great opportunity to cheer on your team mates.
Despite being 4 minutes slower this year, I intend to go back next year and better this.

I came back to do this race after doing it two years ago as my second ever triathlon.
I never really like a pool swim but the snake swim does seem to work better than doing it all in one lane in terms of congestion.
The bike course is fast and thorougly enjoyable. It is very well signed with plenty of friendly marshalls on the way round.
The run is deceivingly not as flat as I thought after a long time with no run training but again actually quite enjoyable!
I would recommend this race and it is great value for money.

I reviewed this last year, then it was my first go at triathlon. Since then have done a few other events both and small.
This remains an excellent friendly event, plenty of both serious competition and novice athletes. Its a club organised tri with plenty of club members out on the course as Marshalls. They are friendly and helpful throughout the registration process and race.
Nice simple online registration, option to collect race pack the day before. Nothing to fault there.
Swim is a snake swim with estimated swim times, marshals indicate when/if someone needs to overtake. Nice decent pool, not sure I'm a fan of snake swims for good times but it seems to work for the sprint.
Bike course is a loop, uphill gradient for about the first 5km then after that pretty flat with some fast downhill sections, this is followed by a run with a water stop at half way point.
quality medal and goody bag at the end, nice barrel of Harvey's ale on the go and a band playing for the finish with plenty of encouragement.
well worth staying for the awards/results they do spot prizes drawing raffle from race numbers and also various other awards so you don't have to win to get a prize.

It was my first triathlon so hard to benchmark, but I've done some other sportives etc. I had a really good time and will definitely do another.
I was as a first timer especially nervous but the briefing, signage and marshalling allowed the event to go smoothly and I never felt like I would get lost.
The marshals were excellent and it was great to have the names on the numbers with people cheering on just when the boost was needed.
The race starts and finishes at the triangle leisure centre in Burgess hill which is easy to find and has plenty of parking. On race day we were directed to park in the school opposite.
The event caters for about 300ish competitors, transition is on the tennis courts next to the swimming pool. The layout of the start finish and transition has obviously been well thought through.
The swim is a snake swim with the slowest estimated times starting finish, that can mean a bit of a wait between race briefing and starting the swim. Essentially though a standard 25m pool swim with lockers available to leave kit.
short dash from the pool to the tennis court transition, it was great to be clapped out if the pool and this happened a lot through the race. It isn't the biggest event, but very supportive for a newbie and everyone there seemed to be full of encouragement.
Cycle is a 25km loop back to the same transition area, bit of a ramp for the first couple miles the. A fairly flat circuit. No feed stops on the cycle but it isn't needed.
The run is a 5km pavement out and back with a water stop at 2.5km, essentially a flat run.
There was a goody bag on completion, prizes for winners and a race number prize draw. There were also photographers at various points on the course and free downloads of photos which was an added bonus.
Essentially a great local event that was reasonably price and very well organised by the local triathlon club.

Was my first ever triathlon last year and came back to test improvement and becuase it was so enjoyable.
Support from marshals, crowds & competitors is brilliant, its a reasonably easy course with no major hills on either the run or the ride. Well marshalled and sign-posted. The pool swim also makes it a great beginners tri. Good mix of all different levels. Highly recommended

This was my first race at Mid Sussex Tri and it did not disappoint, infact, it is probably my favourite race to date.
400m snake swim was well organised & marshalled. It took a while to get people through but with 300+ competitors you expect a little waiting around. Easy run from pool to well set out transition area.
25km bike - all on roads around the local area. Well marshalled and sign posted, one incline climb about 5km in but the rest is good fast tarmaced road.
5km run - back through transition and out through a housing estate then on to an out and back run route. Aid station at the 2.5km point & being out and back meant you knew how far you had left to go (a bonus for me!)
Excellent treats at the finish (beer included!) and a decent goodybag with mug, snack treats, water bottle etc. A little waiting around before presentations of prizes after the event where spot prizes were handed out, as well as age group titles and prizes for friendliest competitor and someone who had overcome a lot to be competing that day.
Overall, an incredibly friendly tri course, club & marshalls and highly recommended for any novice triathletes who are still testing out triathlons. Equally, it is a very fast course, so suitable for more accustomed triathletes who want to test out their pace!
