A great novel race through the Mersey Tunnel from Liverpool to New Brighton. A nice warm up downhill through the tunnel and then a final 5k with a view of Liverpool along the riverfront to a great welcome at the finish line. Recommended!

Fun event and the race itself is rather novel. The course has a few bottlenecks, especially the start and the join onto the Kingsway Tunnel. The event itself is good fun, and would recommend!

The event this year was postponed from April to September due to covid,  but you wouldn't have thought so with the weather.  Lovely and sunny,  warm,  with little shade along the front.

Only 1 drinks station this year which with the heat would have benefitted from a second.

Still a great race with fab bling.

Would I do it again? Totally!

This is a really great point to point road race, starting in Liverpool and using the eponymous Mersey Tunnel as part of the route over to the Wirral.

You are pretty much straight into the Tunnel at the off, with the run beginning just at the top of the service lane.  The Tunnel itself is only about 2km of the total, but it is a really awesome experience running through.  If you have ever driven through it, you will know it is a steady slope down and an equally steady slope back up - however, a peculiar quirk of being in the tunnel and having no visual references to the gradient, means you don't really feel the incline.  Sadly, being underground means your Strava won't record the incline either!!

After the tunnel there is a short trot through a bit of an industrial wasteland before a long stretch up the northern edge of the Wirral with great views over the Mersey to the iconic Liverpool skyline.  It was a smashing day for running weather-wise in 2019, though I can imagine this stretch would be brutal in bad or windy weather - it's a good 5-6km before the turning point into the final stretch.

It's a great event with loads of support in the finish area - plenty of locals out to cheer you on.  Very well organised team and really decent medal.  However, the route is what sells this run and for north-west/Liverpool based people it's got to be done at least once!

First time racing this race, last year I did it as part of my marathon training. Running through the tunnel is a unique experience then as you surface onto the wondrous Wirral the rest of the race is one of my usual runs. Good marshals,t shirt, medal, the pre race info was clear and apart from some runners using the baggage buses to keep warm, thus making it harder to get your bag on,all was good. Ran home after instead of having an ice cream, what has happened to me? I recommend this one as running underwater is something everyone should do.

A unique race that allows you to run under the River Mersey. You are in the tunnel for just over a mile. Runners went through one tunnel and traffic the other. Cars beeped their horns as we entered the tunnel. Oggy chants went up too. It felt like the decent was longer than the climb out and the climb out wasn't as steep as I thought it was going to be. Once out of the tunnel there was the first of two drinks stations. The route was then pretty flat going past the docks area up to the ferry port and then along the promenade up to New Brighton. Second drinks station was between 6 and 7km. Lots of volunteers keeping the way clear of bottles. The final stretch from Fort Perch was lined with cheering spectators and made for a great run to the line. Crossing the line I was presented with water, cold coffee, lentil crisps, can of Rubicon, banana, medal which was very good quality and a t-shirt. Arms so full of stuff I felt like I was on Crackerjack lol. The organisation was great from start to finish. Am now looking forward to Port Sunlight 10k in June with BTR.

The course itself is easy to navigate and hasn’t changed much from year to year. The large field of 2600 means that there is no real spread at any point - it’s a little cramped at the beginning, but fine after about half way through the tunnel. The route itself isn’t exactly pretty - through the tunnel and then around an industrial area, until you reach the promanade at New Brighton and run along the mersey. There are 2 water stations on the course, but the water is supplied in cups or a non-sports cap water bottle which is always frustrating. It did seem that the stations weren’t equipt to deal with the number of runners - bottles were given out without the tops taken off and there were insufficient bins for the bottles after. The goody bag itself is quite good - medal, technical tshirt, some snacks and drinks. But it all comes without a bag so your arms are absolutely full wihout you being able to pick anything up. The luggage busses work seamlessly, as long as you remember which bus your bags are on! Would strongly advise buying return train tickets in advance as the queues for the trains are a nightmare if you’ve not already bought one. Overall a fun, unique race which I’ve done 2 years in a row and will 100% do again.

My first time at this event and my 1st solo 10k. No need for me to worry though as I knew lots of friendly encouraging faces there. Great event, well managed and with a fab atmosphere amongst the runners and spectators. Great route with the novelty of the tunnel at the start and a straight run along the river to the finish. Lots of PB's (including my own one!) and a friendly welcome with snacks at the finish line. No small t'shirts left at the end, but perhaps that's my incentive to run faster next time and get them before they've all gone! Medium will do me just fine and I'll wear it with pride. :-)

Well marshalled throughout. Minor gripe that they didnt have a t-shirt in my size at the finish (did the race last year and the t-shirt then was too tight as well). Guess I’ll have to lose some weight...
