One of the smaller runs I have completed, only been going for three years, if you are looking at running this race I would definitely recommend it but don't expect as much support you get at bigger races, there are no aid stations around the course and only a few Marshall's, with directions dotted around on paths, signs etc. With it being a small run there were no spectators cheering you on and the course goes over busy roads which weren't closed, but weirdly I quite enjoyed the challenge. One part I didnt enjoy was climbing over a couple of trees that had fallen over due to high winds the night before, the trunks we had to climb over were at least 4 foot high and very slippy.

Other parts of the course are along the canal, down pavements, through a cemetery, the course is varied and undulating in parts.

Once finished you receive your medal which is also a bottle opener and your beer tokens which can be exchanged at the bar.

Overall an enjoyable run.

I ran the beer 10k back in October and it had its good and bad points.

For me the main issue was that we were expected to climb over a 5ft high fallen tree at the 5k point. This was dangerous as it was high and slippery, and I only managed to as I was helped over.

The route was poorly marked at times; lack of marshalls and people did not always know where they were going, plus we had to keep stopping at traffic lights.

There was also drug paraphanaelia littered around the canal which admittedly we were warned about, and the council were in the process of removing it.

I feel like the route should have been altered slightly to avoid these risks.

Finally, it would have been nice to have drinks available to buy before the race as opposed to just beer, and there was no kind of snack provided to runners at the end.

Overall I was slightly disappointed with the race and the venue and would have liked more for my money.

This is a small race, it is only the 2nd time it has been ran with only around 140 people but it is growing each year. The course is around a part of Manchester city centre, the terrain and sights are varied consisting of pavements, canal paths or through parks. The route was well marked with chalk and parts where people could get confused there were marshals there to point the way. With it being only a small race there wasn't many people cheering you on, but the ones that were there gave it their all. At the end you get a Medal, water, jelly babies and the obligatory glass of Beer. The whole atmosphere was very friendly, with everyone cheering each other on. I would recommend this run.

What's not to like about a run which starts and finishes at a brewery and rewards you with a free drink at the end?

Great little 10km, limited to 120 participants. The same course is run monthly by the local Mikkeller Running Club along the Rochdale and Ashton Canals and through Phillips Park, and covers a varied terrain for a short, city centre run.

This was the occasion of the Beer 10km and all went relatively smoothly, I think! Well organised and very enjoyable.
