The route is far too tight for 15000 runners and the organisation at the start line was terrible! It took me 30 minutes to get past the start line after the gun was fired due to crowding! Once on the course there were slower runners blocking the route, as there was no clear pacin...

The route is far too tight for 15000 runners and the organisation at the start line was terrible! It took me 30 minutes to get past the start line after the gun was fired due to crowding! Once on the course there were slower runners blocking the route, as there was no clear pacing zones for runners to start from. I spent the majority of the run trying to squeeze past slower runners by running on kerbs! I have completed in this run a few times in the past and it was very well organised and enjoyable, however there were half the amount of runners participating. There were also a number of bollards that were not clearly visible and I saw a few runners smashing into them!! Overall very disappointing!

Support was very good and everyone was friendly - especially impressive given the weather ! Start was terrible and I could not get anywhere close to the start point I needed because of queuing for the toilets. Spent most of the race congested behind slower runners. For a race this size it should be releasing in waves based on bib no / or colours. 16k runners then slowing down HM runners by the time at a good pace Final mile was slippery and I saw a lot of people falling. Did an 18 week training programme to get a PB in a city I love and feel quite aggrieved for the organisers to have planned the race execution so poorly. I think if I wasn't aiming for a PB it would have been a lot more enjoyable.

Pre race communication was good. Logistics at start awful. Couldn't get to the starting area due to amount of spectators blocking way. Not enough toilets. Self-penning was terrible. Took 15 minutes to get to start line by which point I was freezing. Course too congested as it was tight, overcrowded and perhaps the poor self penning meant I was constantly avoiding slower runners? (I'm not fast by any means). Didn't use aid stations as had my own but was aghast at amount of plastic bottle caps being thrown away. Some races have the bottles ready for runners and concerned about the amount of plastic that didn't get tidied up? Nice finishers' shirt and goodies at the end. Quite liked being able to run down the prom in the other route, but appreciated the downhill section in the second half in the new route. Not doing the race next year in fear it's the same start line disaster and way too over-subscribed.

Pre-event communication was excellent. Pre-race organisation was terrible. Far too many people crammed into a small area and was chaotic, leading to starting the race in a random order so lots of runners of different speeds were together, rather than in roughly speed order. Route wasn't great - too many twists & turns, lots of occasions of bottle-necking and congestion. Finishing running along wet cobbles was not ideal also - very dangerous. Water and aid stations along the route weren't well marked. Post-finish was good though, wide area and baggage worked well. Overall, lots to change and improve for next year.

Such a good event and a really good route. So much support on course, even in the parks which are usually the grimmest part of most courses. The last 6k or so down the side of the river is a godsend for tiring legs. Flat as a pancake and a cool breeze blowing in off the water. Or...

Such a good event and a really good route. So much support on course, even in the parks which are usually the grimmest part of most courses. The last 6k or so down the side of the river is a godsend for tiring legs. Flat as a pancake and a cool breeze blowing in off the water. Organisation completely faultless. Only couple of suggestions would be maybe some electrolytes on course and a mat to cover the cobbles on the finishing straight as these are definitely tough in tiring kegs.

It's a great idea to run this with a 10-miler at the same time so your friends can join you if they don't want to do a full half (the 10 miler just misses out a 5k loop of Sefton Park but otherwise starts at the same time and follows the same route). The course is about a third in parks and the final third alongside the Mersey, nice and varied scenery and a great finish. I've marked it as undulating because the 2nd km is one steady climb but once that's out of the way you're reasonably flat or downhill. Last couple of k had some cobbles underfoot and a bit of congestion in midpack. Negatives: toilet provision not great at start or on the route, and I've seen better finish line organisation. It's a nice size, good atmosphere and worth travelling for.

I did the 10 mile version which seemed suspiciously short, resulting in me getting a 7 minute PB that I'll struggle to beat. I think a cone had been placed in the wrong place. Other than that I enjoyed the race, even the big hill in mile one. Running through the parks was especially nice, and I enjoyed running along the harbour except the dodgy stones in places.

An event I always love. The crowds were quieter this year, but expected with covid still being about.

Once up Upper Parliament Street in first couple of miles it is a mainly flat or downhill course passing through several parks before joining the river front to head back to the iconic Liver Building.

A great atmosphere and friendly runners, it never disappoints.

I have completed this race a number of times and it never fails to disappoint. I love the start/finish on the Pier Head concourse. The route goes through the town, out to Sefton Park and back along the (usually) always brutal Prom. A must-do event for Northerners!
