You can"t fault the location of the Lake District. Stunning scenery on a really well chosen course with some challenging route choice. All the event staff and volunteers were great and nice hot food and drink at the enthusiastic finish

Amazing course, such variety and incredibly hard elevation and terrain. Well-stocked aid stations, and the pre-race information was excellent, especially the route map and description. A challenging course to navigate, these directions were essential.

A fantastic route and awesome support from the event team. The Lakeland 5 passes (and other Ascend events races) should be an essential part of everyone’s Lakeland 50/100 / ultra race training plan.

My first Lakeland Five Passes Ultra, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. I started with the early 7.30am walkers and enjoyed an excellent day. The organisation was spot-on and with a small field, the event was friendly and personal. The aid stations were well-stocked and the volunteers were very friendly and knowledgeable. The course wasn't marked, but we were warned about this, and pre-event instructions and a GPX file were provided. I'd advise anyone taking part next year to invest in a GPX device. For me, it was invaluable and prevented several wrong turns. The course warnings about severe weather were well-founded and, even though the day was quite mild, there was a very cold wind blowing between Gatescarth Pass and the descent to Kirkstone Pass. In a high wind and driving rain, it's not difficult to see runners becoming hypothermic quite quickly. So best not to skimp on the cold weather kit. The Gatescarth-Kirkstone stretch was also quite lonely and remote , especially in cloud, so well worth reccying in advance, and the scramble around Threshthwaite Mouth is also worth checking out. I can imagine this being quite intimidating for anyone not familiar with it, especially in the cloud and with wet rock. Overall, an excellent event, very good value and thoroughly recommended. A great event to progress to if you're comfortable with marathon distance trail running but don't yet have the confidence to try a full 50-70 mile ultra. I have every intention of being back next year. Thank you to all the organisers. Peter

Superb event with the most friendly and hands-on directors - loce the fact you are personally rewarded at the finish. Everyine is made to feel equally welcome and accomplished from the front to the back of the course. There are well supplied super smiling checkpoints and the race meal at the finish was well earned and very tasty. One of the most friendly events I've entered. It's a tough course but stunning , and self-guided but the notes are clear and gpx file available so no issues. Thoroughly enjoyable :)

I have competed in a good few Ascend Events over the past few years and they have all had a great atmosphere with a really friendly bunch of staff and volunteers. This is not a snooty ultra running club, all are made welcome, all abilities catered for and with generous cut off times for those that want to enjoy the Lakeland scenery rather than just looking at their feet. I will be back for more.
