It was an exceptional year because of the weather, so the decision to delay the 10km obviously made it more busy. We arrived 90 mins early and were parked in the car park in Kielder village. We still only arrived at the start line at the marathon scheduled start time, even after some great bus orchestration by Steve Cram. There were significantly more people than anticipated because of the weather delays, and the race start time delays weren't communicated very well, but they were doing a very good job given the circumstances. The start was pretty slow but spaced out after 2km or so. The route was well signed and the marshals on course did a great job, and the feed stations were well placed and well stocked. The route was fantastic, tough hills on the eastern side of the reservoir, but very scenic! The food van at the finish packed up pretty early so would be nice if there was more options there. All in all, a good event run in challenging circumstances, but very pleased that it was run after the uncertainty during the week because of the weather.

Great course. Set off early to make sure we got a spot in the green car park- car sharing with folk who were doing marathon and half marathon. However seems like if you were late arriving then you got access to the green car park. Don’t punish the organised runners who got there early to ensure a spot. Man and lady in the green car park entrance were very rude, even when we explained that we couldn’t travel on bus as got motion sickness. Waiting in a nearby lay-by for an hour until the car park was open. Very unorganised. Far too many people there, which showed with road side parking anyway. Late starts to races which messed up people’s fuelling and people were very cold waiting around. Not much contact about race lateness either. Ran all races in last and never had these problems before. Great race but just puts a downer in the beginning of the day that wasn’t needed.

Great event, thank you for good organisation and support available on the day. One minor point was I didn’t think people should have been allowed to park on the dam.

I journeyed to Kielder by bus, a choice that not only proved cost-effective but also aligned with my commitment to being more environmentally conscious than driving a car. The course, despite its stunning landscapes, presented a formidable challenge, with terrain that was often unforgiving. I had prepared for conditions to be worse, particularly in the wake of Storm Amy, but to my surprise, the path was largely free of major obstacles. However, the gravel chips littering the uneven surface posed their own difficulties, becoming treacherously slippery underfoot. On a particularly steep descent, I lost my grip and tumbled to the ground, a reminder to tread carefully on those tricky sections. A heartfelt shout-out goes to the marshals, whose unwavering support and encouragement were invaluable during the race. After all, if the journey were easy, the sense of accomplishment upon finishing would be far diminished. With that in mind, I’m already looking forward to returning in 2026, eager to challenge myself and hopefully shave time off my previous efforts.

This is the first time I taken part in the Kielder events and must say I feel it was very well organised, the staff and volunteers on the stands were so helpful opening the energy drinks so runners lost no time, I am easily pleased and not a fussy person but I honestly can't see how you you can make this event run any smoother seeing has you were forced to run the Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K on the same day, very well executed. Thank you for a good day.

A great course and run experience. However traffic management was a disaster. Car parking need better signage on the miles leading towards informing full v half where they are going. Nearly an hour for the last 6 mile of drive to the start. Caused by a Marshall in the road stopping every car and advising where they should park. Main car park opposite waterside park was grid locked another half hour creeping up the hill to park up. Late for start. Car park crew had no idea what revised start time was. A proper traffic mgmt company like Hattons should be managing this… not volunteers. The bus driver who picked me up was a disgrace, loudly calling one of the Marshalls infront of me a d*ck head for a minor mistake. The finish area very confusing … early finishers confused to where the line was. The guy who came second stopped after passing under the start gantry thinking he had finished yet he had 100m still to run .

What a cracking day! What makes Kielder Marathon so special is the crew, every single bloomin' one of them. I'm a tail ender. I was never going to break any records. Kielder is special because the entire course is manned until the final runner crosses the line. We had music, we had cheering (Steve Cram himself at mile 25). When my buddy and I crossed the line we had VIP treatment. What a reception. Thank you xxx

Fair play to the organisers, this was a difficult year due to stormy weather and some difficult decisions had to be made. Moving the 10k to the second day caused difficulties with parking but advice to arrive early was sound. The slight delay to the start of the marathon was not a problem. Aid stations and marshals were excellent. Bit of a shame about rubbish around the course but not the fault of the organisers. Very tough but enjoyable route.
