Stunning course, very safe and calm swim. Great organisation. Very dark on the run - I am not the speediest of people though!

But every bit as hard!

Not as slick as the European Ironaman races but throughly enjoyed despite some minor gripes.
Lots of travelling needed to be done to get between transitions. Shuttle buses were provided but they had no drop off points other than the termination points. Public transport is non existent on the island so your own transport/taxis are required.
Road closures were a myth but I never felt in any danger as the drivers on the island were, by and large, very considerate and generally quite relaxed.
Roads on the bike course were good in large parts if a bit rough in others. Comparable with most UK roads I would say.
Tough course and accurate (perhaps a bit long on the swim). The bottles provided at the aid stations should have been of higher quality.

This was a relatively last minute entry as I was looking to combine a holiday with one final race for the season. I've previously lived/raced in Asia and was impressed with the general organisation of this race compared to other races. Locals were all supportive of the race and cycling in the build up, we felt completely safe. The swim was beautiful as you can expect in Asia and the bike course is a very honest one with only slightly less climbing then IM Bolton. I went into this race more concerned of running in the heat and this bike course definitely beat me up! A negative was the isotonic drinks at aid stations (I think it was lucazade) was pretty horrible (very artifical tasting) and the bottles handed out very small (500ml). Considering the heat, I'd have liked larger bottles. Run course was ok, parts by the airport very quiet making it challenging however the 2nd half in town with large amounts of supporters was great. Aid stations were super regular which was a great help!
