This is quite a tough sprint triathlon - the cycle is challenging - quite hilly, quite a lot of rather blind bends and a number of junctions; significant possibility of accidents with local traffic and a lot of bikes. The start and finish on gravel was not nice - maybe the transition run should be extended and the mount line moved onto the tarmac - I was worried about coming off the bike. The run is off road and hilly, and comms appropriately recommended trail shoes, but still quite tricky with very uneven hard ground in places - I had to hold back a bit on descents as afraid of twisting an ankle. The lake is very shallow in places, and very murky but not much can be done about that and better than replacing the swim with an extra run. Despite challenges I really enjoyed the race and venue and the atmosphere was great with plenty of snack vans etc and live music. Well organised event with good communication and maps etc. Camping was handy, but clearer instructions for finding the campsite would have been good - I arrived in the dark and struggled to find it. I plan to do more castle series events next year and probably come back to Hever.

This is my 10th year racing at Hever Castle! A well-detailed and informative brief was given by the race director just before entering the water. The swim was a simple route with a kayaker at the buoy to ensure that nobody went too far. The run to transition wasn't too far. The cycle was well signed and the marshals were excellent. The course contained a few hills, but I enjoy a challenge! The run, again, was well signed and marshalled. The finish line area was fantastic and in a great position within the event village and the buffet at the end was a nice touch after completing the race. The event village had a lot of vendors and food trailers. There was also a great atmosphere around which was helped by the two commentators of whom I thought did a great job - I will certainly be back next year! Thank you Castle Race Series!

Well organised and fabulous volunteers, marshals and great venue. My first open water event, felt super safe during the swim, kayakers were fab. However can we talk about the cycle route? I’d read up on the elevation, route, and I have to say it was well marked and marshalled - but it was a very challenging course, the open roads and descents into blind bends were dangerous. I know there were accidents and hospital admissions both days. I nearly came off in Penshurst after hitting a pothole - resulting in my shoes no longer clipping in. The marshal at mile 10 was amazing! But given the cost of the event could the roads not be closed or even partially closed for safety? Also the gravel on the way out/in was unsafe/hard to navigate.

rutal course, brilliant event – I'll be back! I did the Olympic distance at Hever Castle this year, and it's one of the toughest races I've ever done. With 860 metres of climbing, this is not a course for chasing a PB, but that's exactly what makes it special. The run was seriously hard: 10.5km of relentless ups and downs on challenging terrain, with a 500m hill just before the finish that nearly finished me off. Crossing the line felt like a real achievement. What made the day was how well it was run. There were loads of marshals, all friendly and encouraging, plenty of drinks stations, and great support around the whole course. Everything was organised and ran smoothly from start to finish, and the setting at Hever Castle is hard to beat. If you want a proper challenge in a stunning location, with a team that clearly knows how to put on a great event, this is the one. I'll definitely be back next year. Thanks, Team!

Great organisation and atmosphere as always. Nice village too. Always a fun Tri and the shortened bike route didn't detract from the fun. OK so... ...the water was terrible- there ware several areas where it was too shallow to actually swim and my chest was grounding on the bottom. This meant that the muid/silt was being dragged up! and we had to crawl through the mud at points. As several others commented- "if we'd wanted to crawl through mud, we would have booked the Commando!" The village could be open on Friday evening for the campers too and later on Saturday. James at the campsite was fab and very helpful as were many of the great marshalls on the course- the 2 statined by the bottom of the lake were so energetic and supportive- thanks

Well organised event but a very very busy events day with multiple start tiems for various events. Good parts - freindly and great atmosphere, largely great marshalls, lots of options for all athletes, parking easy and stress free. Not so good - water is so shallow so be prepared...

Good parts - freindly and great atmosphere, largely great marshalls, lots of options for all athletes, parking easy and stress free. Not so good - water is so shallow so be prepared, water marshall at exit didnt help this year which was very poor as many people fell, bike out and in is frankly dangerous with excessive gravel for road or TT bikes, charging spectators is outrageous as they are all likely to spend in the village or in the cafe anyway and maybe future athletes - simply too expensive as they dont have time to wander the grounds and spectate their athletes, please put more toilets in esp for atheletes only as queues again or look a the type of toilet esp for the ladies

We camped for the weekend as a group and had family and friends in many of the races. The Sprint and Standard distance courses were tough but well marked and very well marshalled. The camping facilities, scenery and location were excellent. What made this event truly special was the youth events, the team were incredible for our groups 4 young people all completing their first triathlon. The race organisers and marshals went above and beyond to make sure they were well supported whilst also still giving them independence.

Loved the whole weekend. We camped on the Saturday night so got the chance to watch the future racing on Saturday afternoon. Camping was good and facilities good. The race itself is great, its a really good course and volunteers are great across the whole course.
