Thoroughly enjoyed my half-marathon around this stunning course in the Kent countryside. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's a hilly course with varying terrain through fields, forest, woodland and two castles-only a tiny part on the road so you certainly will not be bored as you are put through your paces. Wear trail shoes and you'll be fine. Yes, a few bottle-necks on the narrower parts that did impact on my timing somewhat but as one of the slower runners, this didn't bother me massively. I guess it's the price one pays for a more scenic course although I can see how it would frustrate the faster runners and I did encounter a couple of people who had twisted their ankle on the terrain whilst trying to overtake. Personally, I found the whole event to be really well-organised. I especially appreciated how the registration tent, toilets, bag-drop and start line were all so close together (I've done so many races where these are so far apart that you almost feel like you've done the race before it has even started). All of the stewards were knowledgeable and friendly. There were marshals well-positioned around the course along with ample signage. I never once felt like I could get lost. I also liked how the signage was in kilometres as opposed to miles. This was much more motivating. Feed and water stations were well-stocked. Great selection at the finish line too. Wonderful atmosphere on the day. Only change I would make would be a personalised medal that says Hever Castle on it instead of a general Castle Series one. Given the price of entry, a little goody bag with a souvenir t-shirt would have been a nice touch too. Communications ahead of the race were good, however, as mentioned by other reviewers, it felt like there was too much information to sift through to find the information links that were relevant to you and this was a tad overwhelming. Perhaps one race pack for runners would be a good idea. Took a taxi from Westerham out to Hever Castle for the race. Give yourself at least 30 minutes. It's a windy road and encountered a lot of cyclists racing. It's also a good 5-10 minute walk from the carpark to registration. Overall, I hope to do this race again and would highly recommend it to others too. It was a fun day out.

This was the first time I ran the Hever Castle 10k and it made for a great day out with friends. The pre course briefings were very detailed and prepared me well to understand what was happening on the day. With so many events happening at once I expected it to be chaotic, but in reality everything went smoothly. The clarity of information allowed me to watch my friend start the AquaBike event before moving on to get myself ready for the 10k. I do however have two suggestions for information that could be added to the pre-event briefing. The first a recommendation to wear trail shoes if you have them as much of the route was grass or loose ground (I did wear mine and was glad of it). The second is instructions to the half/marathon/tri runners on how to pass runners in front of them, and a warning to 10k entrants that they will likely be passed and should keep left where possible. There were sections of the course that were very narrow with brambles or barbed wire lined fencing on the side which made passing near impossible but nonetheless runners were trying to get through. Some of those passing were very clear and polite, but others were clearly frustrated or said nothing at all and pushed through. I ended the event with some cuts on my legs. Some people wore earphones and ran in the middle of wider sections which made them particularly difficult for faster runners to pass meaning they were sometimes shoved out of the way. In the main it was an excellent and varied route with great scenery - two castles for the price of one! The marshals were friendly and supportive and the feed stations were well stocked. (The briefing suggested there would be one after 3k, but we actually got out first mouthful of water at around 5k). There was a similar spread at the finish line but it was so congested I left the area quickly and wished I'd picked up more to eat and drink. We received a good chonky medal but I was a bit disappointed it didn't have Hever Castle on the medal itself and was a series-wide design.

First time doing the marathon as a local. I eco the route for parking for non locals few extra signs maybe, joining institutions were good but would prefer separation between types of events to make it clearer and not having to click on loads of different links. Route was amazing, staff were helpful and friendly great views good trail lots of hills, will be more fun if muddy but also more difficult, as a slow coach on last lap stations were low on water and sweets and gels, but made friends and had lots of fun will return again!

My seventh year Running the Hever Castle series 10K. Previously. I took part in the Tris. An excellent Challenging run, through the Fabulous Kent Countryside. Plus a run through Chiddingstone House and Gardens. Finishing at Hever Castle. My Draw to the event. The Whole weekend must be a huge Logistical Challenge. There is so much going on. But that is the nature of the beast. The Run for all athletes is challenging lots of Hils. narrow single path tracks ankle twisting ruts. one lap for the 10K. You will be miwed up witht the triathletes c'estla vie. It is well organised to be fair. Parking is a Nightmare. If it is wet you will be Bogged down and towed out of the fields by a Trakker! Even worse to get to the car park. You join part of the Tri-athlon Cycle route. you will. have to avoid cycling atheletes and crawl along at a snail's pace. Make sure you have plenty of time to get to the Registration. at least two hours. Obviously. due to to the Tight Country roads and parking availability. the Organisers have no choice . To be fair. The Staff are all friendly and Brian A. Does all the race Briefings. Make sure have loads of time and you will enjoy the event. I did.

It felt as if the planners tried to do far too many events on one day and it consequently felt hectic and unsafe. It was an expensive event for 10k. Getting there was stressful as the route to the car park was on the same course as cyclists. I felt sorry for the cyclists as I’m sure the cars got in their way and the narrow windy roads made it very difficult to over take, it felt very unsafe. When running, the start was incredibly congested and then during the run the fastest triathlon participants were over taking us but some parts of the course were so narrow it was difficult for them to overtake and I was nearly knocked over by someone who didn’t give me the curtesy of shouting out as he passed plus it must have been very frustrating for these quick triathletes. On a plus, the route was quite nice, there were 3 water stations and there was decent snacks at the end. However, it all just felt a bit stressful for a 10k so I won’t be taking part again.

I competed in the Hever Marathon, x4 laps of a challenging course, but the scenery and friendly Marshalls more than made up for the hard work i had to put in. The event was well organized and executed, making it a stress free event, well done to the Hever team.

The Run itself was great! Good scenery and a challenging course of ups and downs for me. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Getting to the event was another story. The car park signs were badly laid out, and the roads to get to the car park were along the Triathlon route, meaning we had to weave in and out of a constant stream of cyclists as well as cyclists overtaking us and almost getting hit by oncoming traffic. Luckily we left loads of time to get there. Other than that it was well organised in the village, except for the PA system was a bit quiet and no one really knew where to go before our race started until everyone with the same colour bibs just sort of congregated together.
