This was my first triathlon event and I felt very supported throughout. Everything was very clear and everyone was very helpful. The post-race free food was a really nice touch.

Great event, and definitely would attend another castle race series event, however I, like many other on this review page have been very unwell, with vomiting, drowsiness and dizziness around 36 hrs post event. Had to take time off work, which needless to say was an embarrassment and inconvenience. Well organized and supported event though, it is a shame about the lake swim. To save continued negative comments, which for reasons not necessarily in your control, is there a general post/email you could send to all explaining the lake conditions and what further investigations, if any have been carried out as a result of the significant number of competitors being unwell. I will be back for future events, just might take closer note of water quality next time.

What a great event! This was the second time I had done the Gauntlet and the hills hadn鈥檛 got any less challenging. The swim was great - the course change was well communicated, and the water was a lovely temperature. The bike course was very well signposted with friendly marshalls on every corner. It was almost impossible to go wrong (although I see on one other review that someone managed it). The start and end are on estate roads with speed bumps- we were warned about this, so no surprises there. The run course is tough - I was in trail shoes and was glad of them, to avoid slipping or twisted ankles. Good aid stations with plenty of choice. Some of the run course marshalls were young lads, but they were all happy to give an encouraging shout as I passed by. I was impressed how the organisers cope with so many different events on the day - it was good to have plenty of people around, and I didn鈥檛 find it confusing at any point. Next time please could there be some crisps at the finish line? I enjoyed my free meal of chicken and rice after the end. Thank you again for a challenging day out.

I had a fab event (apart from forgetting my cycling shoes - my fault, not theirs!). Great location for the swim (so long as you don't mind the odd lily). Challenging bike ride, giving the need to utilise each and every gear. Passed through some lovely countryside, and quaint Kent villages. Run went through some varied terrain, with plenty of short slopes to keep it all interesting. Camping provided everything required. A field. Electric hook up of required.Fairly fancy, clean toilets Very well marshalled, the majority of whom provided good, enthusiastic support throughout the long day.

Personally I was disappointed by this event in both organisation & execution. Whilst out on the course, quite a few of the distance signs were incorrect which was misleading but combined with that, marshals were asleep or reading! The GPX files that are uploaded for the event undercall the level of elevation on the course, especially on the run which is actually 294m rather than 180m (quite different!) & I thought that the run route was not well maintained or thought through. The pre-race briefings beforehand were not that helpful and also asked us to be there an hour before they actually did the briefing. In addition, my partner did the half marathon and he picked up his race pack and it had all the details for swim cap etc with no tshirt & felt like it was just an additional event that wasn't prioritised which I believe is entirely unfair. I was incredulous to find out that spectators have to pay and expected for that, they would get a great set-up to hang around in but honestly I am unsure what they would have been paying for. I thought the whole event was poor value for money & poorly executed given what you could get in an ironman competition for not that much more.

I was very pleasured to complete my first ever triathlon at the Hever Castle Festival of Endurance (part of the Castle Race Series) in the 'Gauntlet' aka 70.3 distance. The swim, bike and run courses were all fantastic in terms of scenery, challenge provided, signage, Marshall support and feed stations. This is a brilliant event and I would recommend it to any level of triathlete whether you are a complete newbie (like me) or a seasoned pro. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the weekend. The only thing that would make this event better is some mechanic support for riders out on the course. I suffered a mechanical issue half way through round my first lap of the cycle - my gears had come loose partly due to the rough road surface on the fast descent of Black Hill. Fortunately I was able to ride my bike to the HQ where there was a bike mechanic (from On Your Bike) who fixed the issue very quickly and I was able to do my second lap, although if there was a mechanic station or mobile mechanic servicing riders that would have been even better. I'm sure I'm not the only person who encountered a mechanical on the course.

Bastion ironman Triathlon at Hever Castle. wow what a venue and a course. Loggia setting for the swim is hard to beat. loads of thrilling long descents on the 'rewarding' (tough) bike (a climbers delight), loved it, an absolute classic. varied run is an easy trail, and road shoes fine as its hard packed in summer, unless wet. so many encouraging marshalls, few races can match this level of quality organisation and event, you get what you pay for, highly recommended. register your interest with Castles so they will run the Bastion again - use it or lose it!! onsite camping, great included food from the mongolian vendor post race. nothing not to like about this race.

I did my first 70.3 race today, tackling the Gauntlet. Registration was simple enough and briefing pre swim was very good. A change to the swim course was well managed, and enjoyed the swim, annoyingly someone had hit the lap button of my garmin during the swim which messed-up my stats, but no drama. The bike course is pretty tough, 2 laps, alas on the second lap, I missed a turn and went onto the longer route, 15km added, the massive e piece of green tape on my helmet was for the marshals to Identify and try to avoid this mishap.. alas not in my case, partly my fault to though. The run is another tuff, hilly and multi terrain, not my best run by a long stretch, a pre event achilles Injury stopped all running 3 weeks before event, this unfortunately flared up again un the run, resulting in a run/walk affair.. the scenery was nice nevertheless and finished 10th I age group despite adding 15km to my bike leg.. Overall a great but tuff event.
