The event was well run with enthusiastic marshals throughout and made it very enjoyable to participate, from the car park, cheerful registration ladies, aid station helpers and everyone manning the junctions with some novel ways to make us and themselves laugh. The run route was fun and engaging with elevation and terrain changes regularly with wide and narrow sections for overtaking or tactics. The ride was challenging for fitness and pace as quite hilly but as it was sheltered with trees much of the ride so you could focus on the racing. The roads were pretty good for riding, with generally minimal potholes and there was good views at times to see when you were near others in your race to motivate you to keep pushing and roads were wide enough for overtakes most of the time. Different formats of races having different coloured numbers and background colours on their numbers to show who was in our race and others we didnt need to compete with was very helpful. Not had many races where so many different races have been at the same time so the variety with that was interesting. For the bag drop it was ok except it lacked sides, we had some rain during the event so when i got my bag it was near the edge of the shelter and had got wet, luckily only a short period or my dry clothes would have been soaked. There was some congestion where shorter race bikers joined the Gauntlet route and filled the road 2-3 wide so you couldn't overtake which was a hinderance for a few miles until they diverted off our course again. Trying not to draft was difficult without either extra effort to overtake or choosing to drop back. Since they were more energetic is was easier to just let them pull away and settle to a calmer pace. The aid station midway specifically on the bike route was well placed for the second lap, chose not to stop on the first lap. The drinks were plentiful and there were some gels and the chews especially were tasty. The finish line supplies were excellent! Loved the selection and quantity, good fruits, snacks and drinks to refuel after the race for everyone. I also like that you could almost stay as long as you wanted in the finish area for friends and family to finish and catch your breath, no herding people out so that was brilliant. The highlight of the event for me wasn’t just doing the race with my sister, but having the opportunity to try the Tridot training app! For 2 months free use to experience a training program designed by AI or option of a coach in a practical user interface, working well with Garmin and other gadgets to get you to the start line in great shape. I have found it a game changer for preparing for races and since the race signed up to the app fully. An inspired idea to include this package with race entry for people to trial for a real event. I would like to come back next year to this race and try it with a full year of tailored programs to see how much i can progress, hopefully others have found the same excitement and do the same.

Beautiful location at Hever Castle, we're very lucky to race in such an historic location. The routes were great and safe for example cycle route was left turns so never had to cross a road. Only area to improv upon if they could is the start and finish for bike dismount as its all gravel, so not ideal and was slippy and was crossing my fingers we don't get any pounces, but other than that it was amazing and I'll definitely be back, as this was my first ever. Oh and got to met one of my old bosses from a previous life Mr Adcock :)

First duathlon so don’t have comparisons but we found parking and registration to be smooth. The event itself was fun and the cycle route was well marked and easy to follow. Transitions were easy too. But there were a few important negatives. The running course was a very dangerous surface for most of it, with several near misses on rolled ankles or joint impact - almost all off road through uneven and animal warren surface. There was no warning before that the running would be trail/field so hadn’t brought correct footwear. The start and end of cycle was very rocky terrain which likely causes several punctures given it was a road cycling event. Bad for cycling shoes too as had to walk along the rocks before mounting the bike. Lastly, no clear signing for exiting car park which was packed by time we finished the event. With a few tweaks and improvements, it would make it a much better experience.

A great location for the event. It was lovely running around the grounds The ride was ok however there was quite a bit of motor traffic getting stuck behind slower riders, which was hindering. Then came the real unfortunate event- at the entrance back into the Castle there were lots of marshals milling about and one standing in the middle of the driveway and seemed to be waving people on up the road. So in the split second I thought there must have been some sort of incident and we were being redirected to a different entrance. A mile or so after riding up the first big hill again I realised I'd been mistaken / misguided. To add insult to injury, taking off a conservative 12 minutes from my detour, I'd have finished in 3rd place. Ironically I actually finished in 13th place... unlucky for some

Great organisation and very well run. Great setup to be able to camp over the weekend and facilties were good. Everyone was super friendly and the location is great. Event village is an excellent setup. Its a challenging course on both the run and bike.

It was an incredibly poor choice from organisers not to close any of the roads which lead to lots of near misses with cars and dangerous cycling from other competitors. There was a distinct lack of road safety from many of competitors which should be better governed by organisers...

It was an incredibly poor choice from organisers not to close any of the roads which lead to lots of near misses with cars and dangerous cycling from other competitors. There was a distinct lack of road safety from many of competitors which should be better governed by organisers. Or if they will not actively govern it, then the organisers should at least take responsibility to close the roads to avoid major accidents with vehicles. There was also poor management of the run track. No information before the event indicated the condition of the track, and certainly not it’s complete unsuitably as a race track given the very unkept and hazardous environment. Lots of people were having accidents on the track as we dodged holes, overhanging branches, slippery surfaces, mud pools, uneven surfaces, animal warrens and more. I was surprised that, especially given the poor weather, the organisers hadn’t even bothered to lay protective material on some of the more open fields that would have made at least some of the course safe. It was completely unenjoyable and caused a lot of frustration for many people across the course. Even the transition area was very treacherous. There was a poorly kept gravel road which ended the cycle route, which caused a lot of accidents and run-ins with the spectators as the cyclists tried to slow down. Overall this event was poorly managed and communicated. And most critically, there was a distinct lack of concern for the welfare and safety of the participants. It was completely unwelcoming to season multi-sport athletes, let alone anyone competing for the first time. Ultimately, the organisers tried to stage too many events on one day with insufficient organisation or preparation that would cater for that many formats. I suspect this comes down to financial reasons and the desire to attract more paying customers across a range of events. Sadly the aspirations of the organisers did not pay off. Advice for the organisers would be to focus on a smaller number of events that can be delivered in an a more organised and safe manner, prioritising the welfare of its participants at its heart. Sadly I will not be returning to Castle Race Series until it can competently and transparently address these crucial organisational and welfare concerns.

This is my first duathlon, it was easy for me to get to the location by train, smooth registration, what I didn’t know is that there is only 1 number bib which I have to attach in front of me for running and switch to the back when cycling. Luckily, there is a kind lady who has an extra race number belt. It would be helpful if this information were available to me in the Event Race Pack so that I can be well prepared. I have enjoyed the whole race, the marshals and the volunteers are very friendly and helpful, the event was well organised. I have only 1 observation, and that is the gravel/rubble path toward the bike dismount line was dangerous. I skidded and nearly lost control of my bike, but I managed to hold on to the bike and did not fall flat on the ground. The spectators watched me in action and gave me a cheer. I have enjoyed the event and will do it again.
