Hever Castle was one of my first Triathlons, so I have always loved taking part…until this year 🙁. The World Championships Qualifier with 200 plus people squeezed between two buoys was carnage, being kicked, grabbed and punched in the swim wasn’t the best start! Perhaps a separate male/female wave would have negated this. Staging a qualifier on open roads is unfair and dangerous. I witnessed riders taking risks due the frustration of being held up behind slower riders and cars attempting to overtake on the hills and an unfortunate movement of a large farm vehicle from a side road. The gravel at the beginning and end of the bike course also needs to be addressed (some matting perhaps). That said, the beautiful location, delightful marshals, fantastic organisation still makes this an event that I would recommend!

Overall a well run event in great surroundings. Good organisation and very friendly and helpful staff. However: - the swim was far too overcrowded and should have been split into 2 waves. I had my googles kicked off as well as numerous feet int he face etc. Not for an inexperienced triathlete at all. - the bike course was crowded - and not being traffic free generated multiple back-ups behind cars looking to overtake slower cyclists. This probably cost me a couple of minutes on my time

Well organised event with lots happening in the event village. Plenty of vendors and food outlets, plus trade stalls. A good field to camp on. The gravel section at the start and end of the bike course was very tricky - I could say dangerous! Not really consistent with the qualifier status. Matting may help. Would Hever tarmac it? I’m not a fan of the BTF defined aquabike finish requirements. There is a good argument for a short timed run to the finish. I did it as “triathlon practice”! Could you lobby BTF to change their stance? Thank you.

Back again after saying I wouldn't...........It's a local event for me & it happened to be the World Champs Qualifier (which I've already qualified for in the first Qualifying race). During the swim, I was close to a panic attack as the physical argy-bargy was ongoing. I don't normally swallow water but this race it happened four times because of all the dunking & pushing. Perhaps the mass start should be made smaller. Split the participants into similar age groups or sexes even. Then we could actually sense how we are doing. The water complete black-out was worse than normal & that perpetuated the aggressive holding your position. The pack moved together as one squashed mass. Probably because we were all fairly good swimmers so it didn't thin out. Always enjoyed the scenic bike route & I personally like the hills. Have to say that for a qualifier race, there were far too many pot holes & three times, we were held up by too cautious cars AND to cap it all, a huge tractor with a wide harvest tool attached! That said, the road marshals were consistently informative - they shouted when the road was clear & highlighted the pot holes. This time, the car park direction signage was excellent & enjoyed the free coffee samples & plentiful finish snacks.

Lovely to see so many athletes competing for the 2027 World Championship Standard Distance Aquabike Qualifier. A great swim course and an even better bike course. Very well organised and event staff were friendly and helpful. A few more toilets for athletes would have been better as there were quite long queues. There was congestion at times on the bike course but I guess this can't be helped with open roads. Overall a really good event, especially if you enjoy a rolling bike course.

The marshalls and volunteers were great, however I really wouldn't recommend this race. For a championships qualifier, putting women in a mass start with men is really unfair. I'm an experienced triathlete and this was the most brutal and physical swim I've done, being punched, kicked and swum over by large men for the full 1500m. Women deserve their own start wave. I think the bike course is dangerous - it was too congested, so everyone was drafting, many potholes and blind bends with riders taking ridiculous risks, riding into oncoming traffic, attempting to overtake cars stuck behind slower riders etc. It felt dangerous and I was just happy to finish in one piece (including surviving the c.200m of loose gravel to the finish line which is also unsafe). I'm disappointed that BTF chose this as a qualifier race.

Well organised but the gravel path and speed bumps was unsafe, especially when narrowed because of the runners on path out on bike. I saw someone have an accident and puncture. The potholes on the way on bike up to dismount was also dangerous .

Very well organised event with good pre- race communication, and clear instructions just before the swim. The lake was cool and a bit murky, but this was no problem, as it is a lake :) I did smell diesel a few times during the swim but don’t know if this was from boats or nearb...

Very well organised event with good pre- race communication, and clear instructions just before the swim. The lake was cool and a bit murky, but this was no problem, as it is a lake :) I did smell diesel a few times during the swim but don’t know if this was from boats or nearby lawnmowers. The cycle route was hilly but really fun, and was well signposted every kilometre and turn, and with marshals at every important turn or potentially dangerous point. There were some cars and horses and a tractor, but no major hinderance pace-wise. The speed bumps and gravel at the start/finish were a bit annoying. Marshalls were lovely and helpful and there was a good atmosphere all around.

Loved the friendliness of all the marshalls. Unfortunately I didn't experience race finish, no one showed me how to get through the final banner, I asked a few who weren't clear, so I ended up with spectators and missed all the offerings at the end. Went back to ask for a med...

Loved the friendliness of all the marshalls. Unfortunately I didn't experience race finish, no one showed me how to get through the final banner, I asked a few who weren't clear, so I ended up with spectators and missed all the offerings at the end. Went back to ask for a medal and take a selfie at the finish. Would be lovely to have a sprinkler water system to shower, as the water level was low and so much debris and weeds. I must've stubbed my toe on a twig underwater as my toe is now inflamed. Water was cold so I hadn't realised until I went to change shoes for cycle. Safety team were really good. Changing tents was large and private, thanks.
