This has a great established set up in a beautiful setting. The Lake is stunning, good run route and the bike is flat and fast. I thought Haversports did a good job of continuing the tradition. Hope the lake owners continue to allow the use of this stunning facility.

Another great time at Fritton Lake Triathlon Weekend. Last year I completed the 'Triple-Tri Challenge' but this year I only participated in the super-sprint as hip OA means I don't run anymore but thought I could just about manage a 2.5k run...and I did. Rare opportunity too to get to swim in open water in such a short race (400m) in a nice lake. Whilst some of the road surfaces on the ride aren't great I enjoyed the short loop, it was marshalled superbly & I achieved a similar time to last year. The off road run seemed longer than 2.5k to my legs that hadn't run a yard for 6 months but the dry conditions, supportive marshalls & scenery made it almost enjoyable!
I supported a mate who completed all three races & the whole weekend was a great success. Almost perfect weather conditions, this well organised, scenic & friendly event is ideal for all-comers in my opinion. There probably is scope to have a few more stalls/things to look at especially on the Saturday for those who are doing all events with time to kill, without detracting from the pleasant atmosphere/nature of this event.

Hi David, Great to see you back and competing and many thanks for such a comprehensive review. We're really pleased our marshal teams had a positive impact on so many competitors. It was great to see many competitors and supporters relaxing and enjoying the beautiful surroundings of Fritton Lake between races but we will take your comments on board re stalls. Hope we'll see you again in 2019!
expertly organised, run and supported.. Marshall’s were both courteous and encouraging and you couldn’t ask for more from a volunteer.. really loved competing here today .. many Thanks team Active outdoor

Hi Roy, sounds like you had a great time! Thank you for choosing our event and for taking the time to post a review. It's great to know our marshal team did such a great job and we hope we'll see you again at future AOS events.
Really enjoyed this well organised event. Very hot day but lots of water stations provided. Great marshals on route to support competitors!

Thank you Tom, very pleased you enjoyed our event and we hope your wife enjoyed her first triathlon enough to come back for more! Fritton certainly makes a stunning setting for triathlon, hope to see you again at the 2018 event:)
After racing in the earlier East Coast triathlon back in April, I knew what to expect from the event! Another well organised, friendly but still hugely competitive race!
Loved the experience! Another great race put on but active outdoors!
The bananas at the end, my little girl loved so much we had to go ask for a second, so I might get a bite!
Next year for the triple tri challenge event!

Friendly competitors too! Many thanks must go to Tesco, great Yarmouth for providing the bananas for finish as well as lunch for all out volunteer marshals. See you in 2018 :)
Having completed the sprint and super-sprint on the Saturday, we returned to race Sunday morning in the Olympic distance event.
Once again we arrived early which made registration and racking a smooth/easy process aided by the pleasant staff.
A really warm start and a fair few people (as in the super-sprint the afternoon previous) were opting to swim without wetsuits, but not me! A (finishing) field of 169 meant a 2 wave swim start which seemed to work well. A picturesque/nice lake and a good swim for me but partly marred by a poor chip tag which flapped about and concerned me it might come off, it didn't!
The bike leg was 2 laps of the sprint distance route, gently rolling in places and a real mix of quiet lanes and bigger/busier roads with some good tarmac fast stretches and some heavily dressed leg draining stretches. Hardly a breeze and full sun made it a hot/tough second lap for me, I felt much slower than the day previous but actually wasn't too far off. The support coming past the venue entrance at the start of the second lap was great and a real boost.
The run was tough given the aforementioned conditions. The run route loops round woodland trail, park roads/paths and grass. Great that it was bone dry surfaces. 3 times snaking round felt longer than 10k and a small criticism was not enough drinks/water stations. Loads of competitors were finding it tough and walking in places and I'm sure there were lots of 'slow' run times, including mine! Great support though, especially with a nice long stretch to the finish line.
This olympic distance event had a good mix of age/gender/ability competitors with I suspect a fair few more serious/faster folk than the prior days races. I thought it was a really good event which completed a great weekend and really reasonably priced. A big thank you to the organisers, staff/marshalls and supporters for making it rewarding and enjoyable.

Thanks for review David, sounds like you had a great weekend of racing. The searing heat made racing tough for you all so we're very pleased to hear that our competitors enjoyed the weekend. Good to hear our marshals were appreciated too. We had a huge team of volunteers who deserve lots of praise for standing in the heat cheering competitors on. We look forward to seeing you at our future events.
Great weekend of triathlon at a really nice venue. A mate and I signed up for the 'triple-tri challenge' as part of training for the Outlaw Half at Holkham in 2 weeks time and given the searing temperatures and cumulative effort we think/hope that it has been really worthwhile...despite me suffering bad calf DOMS right now!
We arrived early on the Saturday morning for the Sprint race. Registration and racking were easy, well organised and run by nice, friendly folk. After experiencing my usual pre-race anxieties we got underway and enjoyed a great opening event. We stayed around the site, finding some shade, before racing in the super-sprint event at 3pm which I think I enjoyed even more.
A few more stalls/things to look at and food options would've been good but having said that, given the beautiful weather and surroundings we were happy enough lazing about, recovering after the first event, and there were only about 50 people registered for all 3 events so not too many hanging around all day on the Saturday.
These were my first open water sprint and super-sprint events (having done 3 olympic distance and 1 pool sprint before) and I found them great here at Fritton. Nice lake to swim in, decent bike routes and a part path, part trail run including through some wooded areas, where I was glad of the shade.
Close enough to home, we returned early again for Sundays 08.30am Olympic distance event which finished in 29 degree C heat and a real struggle to run! The 10k course seemed more like 20k...
The combined efforts of the 'triple-tri' have been a genuine challenge for me. The weekend weather was phenomenal, too hot really, at least for me exerting myself! With this, the moderate scale of the event, the great venue & really good/friendly organsation have made this a great experience and a weekend to remember.

Many thanks for the great review David, we're very pleased you enjoyed our event despite the searing heat. Congratulations on completing the Triple Tri, a tough challenge in itself without additional challenges from the weather! We appreciate more food options/stalls would be nice but our focus is always on providing an enjoyable, friendly and well organised event as the priority. Hope we'll see you again in 2018!
