I first ran this in 2009 as my first marathon, and wanted to try it again in 2016.
The course is beautiful, through the Essex countryside, and through a few villages. It's pretty hilly too (especially between miles 20-22, its a looooooooong hill). The route is a kind of figure of 8, and theres a good place for any supporters where you can catch the runners three times.
2016 was also incredibly hot. Less than two weeks before it had been snowing, but it was 28 degrees on teh day (more like 33 on the tarmac) and although there isn't much support, those that were there were fantastic, and the best bit was the home owners hosing the runners down - we needed it!
The marshalls are really supportive, the organisation is really good (and there is plenty of parking) and the medal and t-shirt combo is awesome, I run in the t-shirt a lot! I'd definitely run this again (and I am in 2017)
