For my second year I found that there were places the course wasn't as well marked as last year which led to more wrong turns than before and having to back-track and try again, but this could have been walkers removing ribbons if they think they're rubbish. It was nice to be able to collect the race number on the Saturday as well as this meant not spending time sorting this out before the race and can concentrate on being mentally prepared for the challenge ahead. The marshals at the aid stations were fantastic, and the selection there was good too. They're incredibly supportive in making sure you've got what you need and help to save you time too. Even with the heavy fog at the start this year, it was still one of the most scenic runs I've done, and one I think should be on every long distance runner's bucket list.

There's a lot to be said about a race that does a complete lap of an island like this one. It's so varied, starting off with 16 miles of challenging cliff trails that are filled with friendly people watching, or out on walks. The 20 miles that follow this are considered flat, but after 16 miles of hills it's still incredibly hard work - but worth every second of it whether running on the road, or on the sand. You get something of everything. The checkpoints are well stocked with such a variety of food and drink there'll be something for everyone. The views are incredible, and I'm sure you'll want to stop for pictures many times. The whole event feels like a celebration of running.

This was my first ultra and it did not disappoint. Signed up in 2020 and then covid hit so finally made it to the start line this year. What a race. The scenery no matter if your on the cliff section or the "flats" is just stunning and there is a great atmosphere all the way round. The organisation was great, started bang on 7am and the course was highlighted with orange ribbons and sometimes arrows sprayed onto the road. For someone who doesn't navigate these were very helpful and I think I only lost my way once very briefly. The marshals and race organisers were great and the aid stations were fantastic. Plenty of water, flat coke and all the food you could want. Checkpoints at 8(water only), 16 and 25 miles. You could also have a bag dropped off at checkpoint 2. Shout out especially goes to the lovely people at checkpoint 3 who gave me a much needed pep talk when I burst out crying, filled me with sugar and sent me on my way. First 16 miles is cliff path so definitely get the step training in and then the last 20 miles is flat however expect some sand running and tired legs by that point! Medal is lovely and the magnum at the end was the best ice cream I've ever had. Tough one for a first ultra due however it was an epic day and I loved taking part and challenging myself to something new.

My second trip back to Guernsey for the postponed 2020 RaceCheck event . It was every bit as good as the first time round . Don’t be fooled by the easy 20 mile flat finish because that is preceded by 16 miles of gruelling ups and downs through breathtaking scenery. This is a well organised friendly race . Checkpoints full of every imaginable food . The magnum at the finish line went down a treat . Mark the date because this event always has a waiting list , and reasonable priced accommodation soon fills up . You don’t need any navigation skills but sometimes the markers take a bit of searching for . This race gets a highly recommended thumbs up from me !

This was my second attempt of GU36 after I DNF'd in 2019. It was every bit as tough as I remembered it to be on the cliffs but this time I got past checkpoint 3 and could see the rest of the island. As ever I can't fault how wonderful the organisers, volunteers and other participants are. Even though the GU36 baton has been passed on to new RDs Michael and Paul, who did a fab job with getting the route marked out with the infamous orange ribbons plus some fab motivational quotes, I really appreciated Peter being there to see me complete the race. I'm glad that this was my first completed ultra. The route was stunning as always. The checkpoints were well stocked and varied, although I didn't rely on them too much on this occasion.

The race organisation was brilliant , registration and briefing were quick.

Start was 16 miles of cliffs and steps. The views were worth the tough steps. Around every corner the views just became more amazing. There were 2 check points mid and at the end of the cliffs section. Well manned with lots of food and drink, Marshals even replenished my tailwind leaving me to concentrate on changing me trainers.

The cliffs were followed by 20 miles of flat coastline mixed terrain of pavement, roads, trails and some sandy paths too. All adding to the fun and mixing it up a bit, the views on route continued all the way round.

The finish is touching the monument, as well as the finisher t-shirt and medal a lovely additional touch was a receiving me first ultra pin badge.

The support on route from locals going on their daily business was brilliant

Amazing first Ultra! Lots of information through regular channels (e-mail and website) and even more on social media. Great course and really well signed/"ribbonned". Awesome athletes and all levels present at start line. Really good local support (runners, walkers, cyclists) and the SAUSAGE Rolls!!!

My first ultra marathon and I’ve only done 2 marathons 2018 and 2019 (1month before this)  the event was amazing, tough but amazing! I doubt I would have entered if I hadn’t thought it would have been a challenge. I also wanted to see how I coped with the distance as entered 2019 half MDS this year.
