I've done this race 3 years in the past and enjoy it everytime. This year was no exception. Race registration is straight forward and packs were sent in the post, baggage drop and toilet queues were virtually non-existent this year as they'd changed it slightly to split up into wave times, making it much easier!
However wave times were spread out quite alot, so if you are there with other people that are racing and they run faster/slower than you, there could be alot of waiting!
My partner was running in a faster wave, which meant we had to be earlier to get to baggage drop and then i had to wait for my wave, by the time i entered the pens, my partner had already finished and was waiting for me.
Like all the other of these races ive done, it was spectacularly hot so water before the race started was very welcome!
The course itself is much the same as previous years with a couple of minor tweaks, it takes you past the different landmarks in the park. The last part of the course goes around the outside track and then underneath and into the stadium.
In the past, theres been almost a full loop of the inside of the stadium which had been shortened this year - I also didn't get the same pump from the crowd as I had done in previous years, Im assuming this may be partly due to the spread out waves, those who were spectating for earlier waves must have left so there wasn't many people inside the stadium.
Despite that, running inside the stadium never gets old and its still an enjoyable race(hence why its my 4th time doing it). The goody bag, medal and tshirt were decent too.
I did a YT video of the race here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D1uaFu1NvU

I completed this event in 2016 on my own, this year there were 4 running and 5 spectators.
There are plenty of facilities in and around the event to keep the family entertained whilst the runners are running and a table was booked at a restaurant for post run stories and celebrations.
It was a very warm day and the water made available before the start was very welcome. The spectators also enjoyed getting seats in the stadium to get some rest and some shade.
The route was changed slightly from last year but the highlight was going to be the finish line of the Olympic Stadium?
I was slightly underwhelmed when we arrived at the stadium, three quarters of a lap of the warm up track before running underneath the stadium to emerge on the back straight with only 80m of the run on the actual track.
Those who had not run this before still though the finish was great. It way improve again next time as there was lots of work on the track to make it ready for another event.
It is still a well organised and great 10K with a good finish

After enjoying the 2016 so much I thought I would enter this race again in 2017. Enjoyed the course and support again but was disappointed that the organisers only let runners run the last 100 metres inside the Olympic Stadium where as in 2016 you could run around 300 metres of the track giving the runner a real 360 experience of the stadium. Still debating whether to enter the 2018 race but only because I have done it twice. Well organised and extra water stations in 2017 which shows organisers have listened to the feedback from 2016. Great goodie bag.

First time at this event. Brilliant course. Well organised & marshalled. Personally feel 'The Great Run' medals are the let down. Can't beat the stadium finish on the track! Would run it again!

Really good, would be nice to get your medal in the stadium for the stadium selfie's. Very hot, dont think we can blame great run for that!
On reflection I'm not convinced that the time I was given was my chip time, looks more like the gun time as its a 30 seconds difference from my Garmin. Would be good to have a chip and gun time like most other races to be sure.

It's hard to criticise the Great Newham run, it's 10k, it's in Newham and it's great! This was my second year running the event and coincidently the first time I ran it was the first 10k I'd ever run!
For me, running it again this year was about testing my progress in a year, sadly I can't quite claim it's a like for like as the course was different this year, not so much in where you ran but what order you ran it! None-the-less, to take my time from 75 minutes to 49 minutes in a year was a phenomenal feeling, made all that much better by that finishing 100m sprint!
Two water stations on course, a T-shirt, good quality medal and much improved logistics over the previous year’s event made it a great day.
To point out the faults more than the bads, the course is not flat, but neither is it hilly, it feels like you're constantly going up or down but the gradient is never severe, so don't expect an easy ride! Support was great though at parts sparse, some bands on route added very nicely to the atmosphere though and finally and only arguably the cost, at £32 for a 10k, it feels a bit steep, granted the shirt and medal probably add to that when you compare it with other 10k's where I’ve had a good quality shirt or medal, the cost was only £12. That said, the size of the event does warrant larger logistical costs so it can't be faulted too greatly, and is only a point for you to consider.

This race is very much about running the final 100m on the Olympic track. If you've not been to the Olympic Park, the rest of the route is nice enough but if you've run it before it's pretty familiar.
It's not a 'hilly' route, but it is undulating and will catch you out if, like me, you're not great at pacing! The crowd support is in little pockets so things can get a little quiet at times, but there are a couple of bands along the route too.
Two water stops and a refreshing shower station at around the halfway mark (I think!)
If you've got friends and family watching in the stadium the sprint finish is pretty cool, if you're flying solo you'll still get a shoutout and having your name printed on your race number is a nice touch for some morale boosting moments.
The finish tee is good and you get a few bits in the goody bag. Overall there's nothing particularly wrong with the event, but for me it lacks the kind of atmosphere you get at the London 10000 / British 10k.

A well organised race from the moment you sign up, to the moment you cross the finish line.
Easy to get too, albeit 25 stations on the tube for me, and a good start time, with waves which are staggered well to allow everyone space..which after 1k there was plenty of.
A course with several short hills, which never really stays flat for a prolonged period provided a challenge for myself and many around me. On a hot day like yesterday it was brutal towards the end.
Having said that, it was really well organised, with plenty of water and well marshalled throughout...and the finish is quite spectacular. Running down the 100m stretch inside the Olympic stadium was inspiring and provides an amazing experience.
A great medal and tshirt to those that made it round, with a goody bag packed full of feed
Well worth the entrance fee, will defo be back next year

I signed up for this quite a while ago, so when the pack dropped through my door a few weeks ago, I started to get a bit excited...I was going to run in the olympic stadium...eek :)
Getting to the event was pretty easy, and once in the olympic park everything was well sign posted to get you where you needed to be. In general I found the organisation of this event to be fantastic, spltting the 4 waves into 2 quite distinct groups meant that queues for toilets and bag drop were small (if at all) and the start areas didn't seem overly crowded. The only downside to this was the 2 later starts had to run in an even hotter part of the day, and it was hot!
I was there in plenty of time, so the queues for bag drop were non existant and I can't even tell you how excited I was to see proper toilets to use, not just portaloo's (easily pleased me!) So excited in fact, that I made about 4 visits!
The start went well, although slightly congested. The crowd thinned out quickly as everyone bombed off down the first hill. The delight of the downhill was quickly met by the first of the many uphills. This course, although not really hilly, definitely can't be described as flat, and in the heat I personally found it relatively challenging, especially as I didn't want to be on my last legs for the last 100m in the stadium. Support around the course was sporadic, but vocal. There were also bands and music pumped through speakers at several points around the course which was great.
But really, it's all about the finish. With probably just under 800m to go we made a lap of the warm up track, where I ran round dreaming I was Mo Farrah warming up on Super Sunday. Then a section under the stadium where they were pumping out music that got you lifting your pace until suddenly you turn out onto the track. You can hear people cheering, and the only course of action is to sprint as fast as you can Usain Bolt-esque towards the finish!
After that, I spent a few minutes getting my breath back, looking around the stadium and watching others crossing the finish line on the big screens. It was an easy walk round to pick up you goody bag, which had medal, t-shirt, water and the usual snacks.
Overall I felt that the event was brilliantly organised, and worthy of the entry fee. I'm definitely doing this again next year.
