my only other comparison for a marathon abroad was Paris and for me Geneva was the winner! 

Easy to find and relaxed start which was a little congested but what marathons are not, then you head out into the Swiss country side which is absolutely stunning even in temperatures set for sitting by a pool NOT running a marathon!! 

thankfully tho the waterstations were extremely well organised and enthusiastic playing music and armed with hoses and more than ample supplies to aid my survival from water station to water station especially as any form of shade were slim to none.

the support out on the course is far less in numbers than other big marathons but boy do the locals make up for it, Especially in the town after the very well placed downhill stretch at mile 20 giving you some amazing views alongside the lake and great feeling knowing you are on the home straight. 

as you head into the main town again less in numbers but despite that I actually found it hard to keep up acknowledging all of the crowds amazing support (my personal favourite was “allez Terry do it for the queen”) which made myself and the crowd laugh out load as I ran on giving a huge thumbs up with a huge smile! 

There is a slightly odd stretch before the finish when you head up and turn back on yourself but that ensures you get the amazing finish with the iconic fountain on your left hand side as you are given your very well earned and very nice big medal ! 

I would certainly reccomend others to give it a go as it’s a box I am happy to have ticked off !  

Second time I have done this race both where given through the running heroes network.  So will not comment on price. 

Both the times I have done this race it has been glorious sunshine, last year the rain came.  I would say if you can catch a sunny race it really is a beautiful race.  How can you complain running around Swiss fields with little hamlets of new and old style alpine houses.  With the locals out in force cheering you on.  To the back ground of the French Alps. 

Then just as you are getting tired you have a loverly little drop into the city before a nice 5km through town. Downside being if very warm zero cover from the sun, but you can not have everything.

Expo is central in the town. Which is about 6km from the airport and easy to jog if light on luggage.

Getting to the start is a trip on the tram #12 free with race number. 

Finish on the bridge next to the lake with the same name as the town. 

Park and lake and jet make a relaxed few options to get your breath back.

Only downside is the price of Switzerland.  But with cheap flights and a bit of shopping around for hotel you should be able to find something. (or stay out of town on the French side)

Apart from than would recommend. 

2nd time running the half marathon and once again an excellent race!

Very easy to reach the start as always with extra transport put on to accomodate runners, also as a runner you are entitled to free transport throughout Geneva for the whole day.

Lovely run though the countryside for the first 11ks taking you to the lake with the jet d'eau in the distance, it's then a straight run along the lake into the city for a loop round town passing the Palais Wilson building (the headquarters of the League of Nations, predecessor to the United Nations) and finishing on Mont Blanc bridge.

Bit of congestion to start whilst people figure out their pace but things ease off after a while. My only comment is due to hot tempatures there was of course extra demand at the feeding stations, many people stop as soon as they see them so it's always worthwhile to run ahead a little to skip the traffic.

Overall, great flat course, excellent support and a new half marathon PB!

Really enjoyable half marathon, first half of the race is through the countryside with great views of the Salève then coming through to the lake and seeing the Jet d'Eau and knowing there's not long to go.

Organisination was excellent and the bag drop/collection was very easy. Lots of recovery snacks available after the finish line and I do like races that give out their t-shirts during bib collection the day before which is the case here, also got a nice sweat band too.

Ok I might have been blessed with glorious sunshine, but running through endless Swiss fields to the backdrop of the Alps and cows with bells was perfect.

Picture postcard stuff, with a short 5km though the city at the end, with the iconic water fountain for reference.

Well organised, Expo in the center of the city. It's Geneva, even enjoy a 5km to 6km run from the airport to the Expo!!

As with all things Swiss.  Your Pound/Euro will not go far.... If anywhere.  Just remember that and plan accordingly. :)

Life hax, land in Geneva and stay just on the French side close to the start.  At least you might be able too afford to eat then in Euro land :).

Flat (for Switzerland) and a stunning looking marathon.  Well recommended.
