First, it is a shame that the event does not pass by the abbey, especially as the flying monk name refers to an event in the abbey’s past. Second, the car park is a long way away- it seemed a very long way indeed after the race was over!

Another event on the DB Max pacing team. This 10k is one of the more challenging on their 10k calendar as it has a few cheeky hills than the others. A fun event, with the fab pacing team and one I hope to do again. As with all DB max event, the marshals are fab, water stations well placed and the food options and jelly snakes a must at the end! Medal is fab, but DB medals always are! I'll be back next year!

I love DB Max events My slight issue with this one is, no need for the bit down the Fosseway. Gravel, single file in places, up and down hill. Just for an out and back to add 500m to the course. Please just find the 500m through the houses! Or better yet, through Bristol ...

Please just find the 500m through the houses! Or better yet, through Bristol St to the Triangle (appreciate that might need closed roads) Still, lovely event otherwise

As usual, DB Max put on a great event with great sign posting, quick registration, great warm up, easy baggage drop, organised start with pacers, friendly staff and marshals, a medal that doubles up as a bottle opener and free beer or cider at the end. Winner!

This is my 3rd time taking part in this event and it doesn't disappoint.

Parking is very well signposted and lots of it. It is a 5/10 minute walk to registration, so keep that in mind.

Registration is on the Malmesbury Vic's FC football pitch, so lots of space.

Registration is easy, just remember your ID...

Plenty of Pacers and a warm up before you get underway and then it's out onto the roads of Malmesbury. The first few KMs are around the houses. And then you get onto the rural roads and it becomes a bit more picturesque. Eventually running along the old Fosse way for a while. There is a water stop at 5k. Would have liked to have seen paper cups if I'm being honest.

Then it's back into Malmesbury to finish where you started.

All of the marshals were very helpful and encouraging. Signage was all very well situated too.

My day wasn't the best and that's just down to my fitness levels. But no.complaints about the event.

A very nice medal, miniature pulsin bar and a giant jelly snake when you cross the line. And if you had the time to wait in the queue for the clubshop bar, a free beer from the local flying Monk brewery.

Thanks again for a great event.

Thanks for the review Matt. Just to note, our cups are vegetarian corn starch cups which are collected and composted by our supplier post-race.

I ran this as pacer and really enjoyed it. Was great to help other runners to achieve thier new PB.

I’m a huge fan of DB Max events, the company organises quite a few in the local area and always find them to be great value for money and well ran. The Malmesbury 10k was no exception.

There were a few things to note though, as I was a first-timer and didn’t know Malmesbury very well. it’s on the same day as the carnival and therefore the town centre roads are closed off. Sat nav being sat nav kept trying to send me through the town, much to the annoyance of the local carnival marshals! The parking is a 10-12 minute walk from the event at a local school, it was well signposted and then you just have to follow the other runners to get to the football club - where it all starts and finishes.

Registration was easy on the day and logistically the race started/finished in the same place at the football club.

The course itself was undulating however again it was signed and marshalled. My only negative was the marshals at the end of the course, who were by the Co-op before you turned back into the football club to finish. It wasn’t very clear (if you hadn’t raced this course before) where you had to turn and the marshals at this point were quite rude. Not just to me but also to some of the others who were racing, these were volunteer marshals and not not part of the core DB Max crew. I wouldn’t have said anything however as 3 other runners I know of had the same experience I thought it was worth mentioning.

The finishers medal was high quality and you also were able to claim a free beer or cider at the finish - result!

DB Max events are usually pretty slick and Malmesbury was no acception. Some slight logisitcal issues down to the rain and everyone huddling either in the club house or under the shelter.

Registration was quick and easy with number collection on the day. lthough many couldn't see the registration tent once people started congregating by the club house but this was soon rectified by a marshall pointing people to the right place - this was completely down to the weather rather than organisation.

Pacers between 45-75 minutes. Great to have a 75 minute pacer as this is definitely closer to my time scales!

Due to road works there was a slight alteration to this years course which not only was it a fairly steep and now slippy down hill but also single file. Trail shoes would have been an advantage here but it was well marshalled for safety.

A well manned water station at half way and then a local running club with jelly babies at 6km who even apologised for how soggy they'd become. Soggy or not they were much appreciated.

Despite the wet and wild weather conditions, a lovely well organised event and great to see fellow visorclub members and a PB made it a memorable event.
