This is the perfect marathon warm-up race; everyone I spoke to over the distance was doing marathons in either Manchester, London or Chester in the coming months. The testing hills on the course are a good way to check your legs are ready for the 42.2. However, if you're not due a marathon, this event is pretty dull and there's not much to recommend it. The open roads are mostly traffic free, but don't be surprised if you do get a 4X4 whizz past you...

An event that feels like its in the sticks and I loved the race. It was a great marsthon warmup run where I could test out some marathon preparation. The looped nature of the circuit worked quite well in my opinion and gave people the option to store gels of drinks at the end of each lap. The course is undulating which is also great for marathon preparation and testing racing strategy when factoring in hills. I've signed up for 2023 as more marsthon preparation!

The second time I’ve done this and there has been a few changes to the better.

Still the same challenging route with plenty of hills. The main reason people do this is for a spring marathon lead up.

Traffic was managed better this year, with Marshall’s being assertive on narrow sections. An extra water station made it regular on a 6.5 mile looped route.

Also pacers were introduced to help runners ahead of that Spring Marathon and a medal was added to the momento of a T-shirt. A much better design & colour.

Truth is I wouldn’t do this unless you have a spring marathon coming up. However there are many reasons why it’s a great marathon build up race. Testing, hard course up plenty of hills. The laps make it mentally testing and the support is next to nothing apart from by the relay point. So this helps train you mentally. Water stations were regular however roads were not closed so on narrow country lanes we were dodging cars, vans and the odd tractor. Not a huge problem but not ideal. A souvenir T-shirt was basic with sponsors on but for only £16 it was good value really. A good event for marathon training.

Just 6 weeks before London I though this race represented a good long run option. At just £16 for an affiliated entry it was I thought good value.

The race was based at the Knighton Sports & Social club in Knighton Staffs which provided excellent facilities for runners. There was good atmosphere before and after the race in the clubhouse with runners leaving baggage here during the race without any issues.

The course was a tough undulating 3 lap route of the Staffs countryside with plenty of hills to test the participants. Conditions unfortunately weren't great with the recent rain leaving plenty of water on the course, and the cold weather leaving the roads riddled with potholes.

With such a remote location, as I expected support around the course wasn't great. With just a few supporters in the local villages which runners passed through.

It was enjoyable day though, a really well organised event one which I would definitely do again.
