A good example of how local triathlon should be run. No frills, well organised and a great atmosphere. The water was fairly clean and the course easy to navigate. The bike route was on open roads like most British races but was really well marshalled and on largely quiet roads. I felt safe throughout and the organisers did a great job of staggering the different races so that the course never felt too busy even on my second lap. There wasn't much of an aid station on the bike, not a problem for me but may have been for some people. The run course was a little more off road than I expected, but you are warned of that so fair enough. It's a pretty course through the country park and non-triathlon people were very respectable of the race. I would highly recommend this race.

This was a superb event: great organization, great location/course, great marshalling, great support from spectators and passers-by alike - thank you to everyone who helped to make this such a fabulous success! One very small suggestion for future: the sticky labels that I attached to my bike and helmet were a nightmare to peel off - not sure if they have to be that particular material for any reason; I've not struggled with such labels before.

A well organised and very enjoyable event. The race registration was quick and easy, the race briefing was informative and ensured we all knew the route and any points to slow down (e.g. when joining the bike start). Transition was well laid out and with a good amount of room between competitors. The swim started as a mass start in the lake and was two laps for Cowman. The volunteers were helpful on exiting the lake. The bike course was changed a couple of weeks before due to roadworks. The Cowman was 4 laps of a reasonably undulating course with some nice flats and downhills to gain some speed. I didn’t use the aid station but the volunteers cheered for each rider as they passed. All marshals directed us very well so there was no confusion on the route. The run was through Emberton park, a field and back through the village and again 4 laps. The run route was quite challenging but the marshals were excellent and really helped us keep in good spirits! There were two water/aid stations so 8 opportunities to take on some water. My husband was awarded a goody bag after finishing the Calfman, they unfortunately had run out for Cowman competitors but still had plenty of sweets, crisps, water, Erdinger and biscuits available on the table. I booked onto this event after training for a flatter course and missing it due to Covid. I am so happy that I did! A brilliant event and the amazing marshals and volunteers really made the event special! Thank you all! Would highly recommend to anyone!

Nice event, and not a traffic heavy course (except for a 1 mile stretch of the ride). A confusing race briefing meant numerous people swam in the wrong direction of the swim - water isn't the nicest with alot of weeds and foul smell. Would benefit from making the swim rectangular than the obscure shape you had us swimming. Ride is fine - course was changed at short notice to 4 smaller loops rather than 2 larger ones. Only one aid station if you need to stop. Undulating and quite windy but a fairly fast course that is largely traffic free/very quiet Run - tough run. Half through a farmer's field on the tractor tracks and half on pavement/road. Well marshalled and 2 aid stations. Event could have better parking organisation and but overall marshalling was good.

Hi Joe, thanks for your feedback! Appreciate your comments on the swim and we're having a little brainstorm about how to manage it better in the future - including changing up the swim segment!

While multiple laps may not be so enjoyable for Cowman athletes the new course felt safer (less busy roads) and more varied than the original one.

The swim course was very confusing, during the briefing it was mentioned we should have kept a yellow buoy on the right and then a white buoy on the left but I have never seen a white buoy. The other participants experienced exactly the same.. Moreover, the lake was really full of algae to the point that it was impossible to focus on the swim without getting distracted by the layers of algae on the face/hands.. I'm not a beginner but certainly didn't enjoy it (and don't think it suits first-time triathletes, especially the ones scared of open water). The bike course was ok, I totally understand about last-minute changes due to road works but going through tiny villages with lots of twists and dangerous turns it's not ideal for a race in my opinion. The run course was quite scenic but it should have been emphasized that racing shoes were not ideal (I have seen a few participants twisting their ankles). Honestly, the goody bag and the aid stations were quite poor, on the contrary, the medal was quite original. The marshals were very kind and prepared, and the organizers quite friendly too. Overall, the venue was family and spectator-friendly, and Olney a nice countryside destination for a weekend. However, the race is not a great value for money, definitely not a PB potential nor ideal for beginners.. and especially the swim course should be improved!

Hi Alex, thanks for your feedback! There were yellows buoys and a white buoy but I can appreciate that whilst swimming looking out for particular colour buoys may not be the easiest task, and we can only apologise for the confusion. Thanks for your understanding on the bike route changes, we had to go with the chosen route as the alternatives were either too long or too short, and we did have extra marshals in place and motos to ensure for athlete safety, but rest assured in 2023 we'll be using our original cycle routes. We encouraged athletes to wear their running trainers (just not their best ones) which went out in the athlete information pack, apologies if this wasn't made clear enough. We do believe that we give great value for money, we are a lot cheaper than many middle-distance triathlons across the country and try to give our athletes as much as we can. Once again, thanks for your feedback and we hope this isn't the last time we'll see you at the event!

Only thing was the run was very hilly and on uneven ground through a field, which didn't make much sense as could have easily done a tarmacked route around the same area. Wouldn't recommend as a first triathlon as everyone seemed very keen triathletes and I felt a bit out of place being a beginning.

Hi Rebecca, thanks for your lovely feedback and glad to hear you enjoyed the event! It is a tough little run course through the fields but we like to make it a bit more exciting than running around the park. We welcome athletes of all abilities so hope you haven't been too put off and we'd love to see you at the Cowman 2023!
