I felt the course was well marked for the bike and the run. The change in the direction for the swim was a bit of a curveball but understandable given the tidal flow. I almost missed the first turn buoy because I had a hard time distinguishing the orange buoy from the yellow turn one at that time of day (right around 7 a.m.). Having the sprint triathletes mix in with the Olympic athletes during the swim created a bit of a cluster at the final turn. The traffic congestion on the second half of the Olympic bike course was challenging at the turns. Maybe a heads up or some instruction at the race briefing would be helpful on what to do.

One of the best races in the DMV area overall. The venue is fantastic, the city is welcoming, and the event is exceptionally well organized. That said, there are a few areas that could be improved in future editions. The final segment of the swim was somewhat difficult to navigate, as the sighting buoys weren’t well aligned with the finish. During the second lap of the Olympic bike course, congestion became an issue, cars were stuck behind sprint athletes, and faster Olympic riders were then forced to slow down behind the cars. The T-shirt design this year left a bit to be desired and could benefit from an update. Despite these minor points, it remains a top-notch race experience and is highly recommended.
