A good run race, big bottleneck very early on so it's wise to get off the line fast to avoid congestion. Mostly well-marshalled but this year (2025) there was nobody pointing people up to the last big hill and some carried on straight... missing out a chunk of the race (biggest climb) and therefore finishing in positions they didn't earn. A marshall on this location would be ideal. Race medals stopped being handed out after the first ~70 people finished, which was weird. Great fun was had still!

Hi Sam, The very nature of this race and location sadly means that a bottleneck is almost inevitable and we deliberately market this race to err on the fun side (as you'll see with our comments on the distance). All signs were put out on the course and all were there when collected so this issue with the big hill is something we need to look at. We identify key points on the course which are "must-haves" for marshals and maybe we need to add this location to prevent it. That said, recruitment of volunteers was challenging for 2025 (too much late Christmas shopping?) but we did have all key locations covered. We will add this to the post-race review for sure as we work towards 2026. We'll also enquire about the medals with the team. Hope we see you back for '26

I wholely recommend this event!

The race is purely off road around the woods and fields off Pett. As it was in December it was quite wet underfoot with lots of mud . The woods were pretty with well established trails. Parking at the venue was limited so arrive early. There were toilets in the village hall and porta loos were provided . There was one water station at around half way. Course was well marshalled and sign posted . After the event there was tea and bacon sandwiches provided if you had pre ordered. Nice medal at the end . Overall a nicely run event .

This is such a good atmosphere, fun event pre Christmas. Lots of fancy dress. Challenging trail, up and down through woods, fields, mud. A few of us ran it together, not for a time but for the fun of it. Nice Works are so generous. At the finish you get a good medal, an individual Christmas pudding, mince pies and mulled wine. Plus bottles of wine for all age group winners. Over 400 runners this year. All in all, a terrific event

It can get quite muddy so trail shoes are a must. There’s a water station half way round, which is enough, but some jelly babies wouldn’t go amiss. The wood section is tricky so watch your ankles. There’s a lovely big medal waiting for you at the end, along with a Christmas pudding, mince pies, mulled wine & various other snacks. My only criticism is it isn’t actually 5 miles, rather a smidge over 4. I would definitely recommend it.

Measuring in at 7km this is a relatively short but challenging trail run. Well organised & well supervised it’s a mixture of field & woodland trails with a very short bit of farm track. Parking is a problem, but if you’re prepared to walk you won’t find yourself outside of the village. Nice medal & snacks at the end, but missed out on mulled wine as they demand you take your shoes off in the village hall (hq) . Once I take wet & muddy shoes off they’re not going back on, and I’m not sure why this was a rule as the floor would have had to be cleaned anyway. Still, apart from that personal little grumble it’s a fantastic race which I’ll continue to do every year.

I love this race, having just completed it for the third year in a row. It’s small, it’s friendly, it’s full of fancy dress and contains plenty of mud! The route starts by the village hall (car share - parking is VERY limited) and runs through the woods, out onto and around some fields, and back into the woods again. It is a challenging course, undulating with lots of mud and puddles this year due to the weather. But the marshalls are friendly and encouraging, as are the field of runners. A final lap of a grass field brings you to the finish, with a massive medal, a Christmas pud, mince pies and warm mulled wine. I’m already excited about next year’s race (but please move it back to the weekend before? It was a week later this year)
