My first Big Bear event. The event was easy to get to and the Race Director and everyone involved were all very friendly. The course was well marked and there was a good selection of nibbles at the aid station. I would definitely enter another event in the future

Nicola, Thanks for the review and glad you enjoyed the day. Reversing laps is an interesting idea - the problem is people getting confused! The only way would be to have different coloured signs for clockwise/anti-clockwise. If we did that we'd end up with a million signs in the forest. We'll have a think about it though, we're always keen to try new ideas with the courses. Hope to see you in 2019

yet again, a well-organised event from Big Bear events. Salcey Forest is a beautiful location for a lapped event, each lap being 5 km and well-marked. The aid station is fantastic - savoury and sweet tooths are well-catered for, and as an added bonus when you sign up for their events they ask you for any special requests - being Christmas, I asked for mince pies, and got mince pies! The medal is lovely too. If you want a low-key, excellent value for money event, then you won't go wrong by looking at Running Bear Events. Oh, and the icing on the cake is you get a lovely piece of flapjack (locally made) and a choice of local beer, cider or lemonade.

Lynda, thanks for your kind words and it was great to see you (in Christmas top!) at another of our events. We're really pleased you like our events and keep returning. Not sure we'll be able to get mince pies for our summer runs but it would be criminal to not have them for a run in December. You tell us what you'd like, we'll do the rest! Looking forward to seeing you throughout 2019.

This was my second event, having previously run the Big Bear Challenge in Feb (The first by this organiser). As before, the event is well organised and the RD is clearly a runner himself - these things do show. The event is pretty small, low key, and in some ways quite simple, but missing nothing that makes an event great (unless you like running on roads and being cheered on by huge crowds!). The 3.3 mile looped format is a really good one, just long enough to stave off any boredom with the repetition of the route, while not being too long to discourage 'just one more. It also means that you can take regular stops at the end of each lap to refuel if you want to go the distance. And the distance is an important aspect of this format. Here some turn up to do ' just' a couple of laps, some aim to do a half marathon (4 laps), a marathon (8), or to run as far as you can. The key is that this isnt really a race, more like a social run where there are many objectives all existing harmoniously side by side, so everyone wins in their own way. This run is probably best seen as a transition between distance road running to the trail in an easy, non-pressurised format. It's trail running, and yes pretty muddy in parts, but not hilly or technical, so is the perfect environment to dip your toe into the water if either the trail, or a longer distance is new to you. What else? Great feed station (you're asked in advance what you'd like!), clear routes in quiet surroundings, and beer at the finish. What's not to like?! So, well done to Paul and the team for a great event. Definitely recommended.

Tim, perfect review, thank you! It was good to have you back at an event and brilliant that you've completely understood what we're trying to do. Not sure we could try and explain it much better ourselves and glad you enjoy the format. Looking forward to seeing more of you in 2019.

This was my first big bear event... and I loved it. Great family feel with passionate organisers. Turnup and run as far or as little you want no pressure and just keep running. I managed a marathon and the food and snacks kept me going. I will be back next year for more events....

Really enjoyed this event. Very friendly and laid back. Liked that you can pick your own distance and having the option to stop at any time due to the lap format. Great to have an option of a mid week event. Venue has all required facilities in situ. Great snacks and goodies at the end - loved the medal! Communication prior to the event was really good, including photo's and up to date info on the underfoot conditions. Free photo's. And my partner and I could run with our baby in the buggy too! Excellent value.

Nic, thank you for the review. Always good to have you and the rest of the family at our events. The little man will be big enough for some aid station food soon - probably not the best diet for a baby but he'll have just been for a big run. Glad you like the format and the atmosphere we're going for. Would be great to see more of you all in 2019.
