Having raced this event before in one form or another, this is my third time (relay-swim, Challenge Phuket, relay-run).
the event is in Laguna Phuket, Thailand so heat and humidity is a major factor and definitely worth thinking about arriving early for acclimatisation time.
The Laguna Phuket Tri "Race of Legends" in it's 30th year is super well organised.
first you start with the iconic swim...1300m sea swim before you exist to dive in the lagoon to finish the 500m. Transition from salt to soft water as well as a change in temperature makes it interesting. Quick transition including showers out of the swim and water station before you get to your bike.
The tarmac in Phuket is way better than back home in most uk races I've ever done. The course despite a couple of real steep hills is fast, especially if you can descend! This time the sting was in the tail as the biggest hill with gradients up to 20% was towards the end. The last 10km of downhill/flats is a great way to get your running legs on...
the last 12km is flat but hot, hot, hot! Running through the Laguna resort/golf course, there is no room for shade. Running on pavement, concrete path keeping hydrated is a key. 2 laps later you'll be glad to finish but your head will be full of great memories with the desire to do it again!
