I did the 10k, what fun, mud, mud and a bit of mud. Sure got me out of a comfort zone of tarmac, but then, don't we all need that sometimes? Loved the finish hill, I thought i'd finish sliding down on my bum, but who cares! A great day out, despite the weather

This is the second time running the half marathon here and a complete contrast from the first due to the extremely wet and muddy conditions but this is a trail race so you just go with the flow and get on with it! It is well organised, marshalled and signed with plenty of drinks ...

This is the second time running the half marathon here and a complete contrast from the first due to the extremely wet and muddy conditions but this is a trail race so you just go with the flow and get on with it! It is well organised, marshalled and signed with plenty of drinks stops around the course. The one thing that could be improved is that the course is short of the stated distance even with a little change from the 2022 course. This year I clocked it at 12.52 miles, so basically 20K. With a slight adjustment of even an out and back at one of two possible points on the course, this could easily be achieved. Knowing that it was going to be only about 20K didn't bother me to be honest but if I was doing this for a first timer running the distance or doing the marathon, I may have been a little annoyed to find out that I had not actually run a half or a full marathon. Just something to think about but this is a very good trail course and I will most likely do it again.

Loved the 10k run at Castle Howard despite the weather conditions. The route was well marshalled and marked clearly. The run is multi terrain which provided a bit of a challenge with the rain, mud and muddy puddles. Will definitely run this race again. Even with the rain the course is stunning, the backdrop of the lakes within the grounds, the woodland and the finish with Castle Howard in the background. Good course for all level of runners. The event was well organised, good parking, registration quick and straightforward, bag drop and changing facilities. Snacks and drinks provided at end of race. Food and beverages where available to purchase. Beer tent and Yoga, great.

I ran the Castle Howard Marathon in 2021 and also 2022. On both occasions, my Garmin watch suggested the distance was short: this year, it recorded 25 miles exactly and gave me a Personal Best that was unlikely. Looking at the feedback for the race, about 10% of respondents also questioned the distance. I contacted Castle Race Series, the company who organises the race, but they would not clearly state if the distance was short. One employee said in an email the "missing distance" would be restored. However, the founder of the company only offered to speak on the phone and considered the case closed when I asked for a brief, written, email reply. As runners have targets in terms of numbers of races run and PBs, I feel what I paid for was not fit for purpose.

Nice event, good run although expensive to take the family / any supporters. £27 for 2 kids and a adult to watch - if your not staying all day it’s expensive to get support there which is unfortunate as it was a expensive race to enter in the first place. It did state this when we look again on the website but it needs to be made more prevalent when booking in my opinion. Poor results system, my result never logged. Emailed the race support who just said I had to contact the results organisers myself. Still not sorted 2 weeks later, which is a shame as I think I would have had a top 10 finish. I’m sure I’m the unlucky one not getting my time recorded and everyone else was ok.

Well run event - plenty of information in the days before the event and on the day. Plenty of marshalls, signage and water stations (I liked the fact cups were used instead of bottles). Stunning location. Course was hard due to heat and the hard, baked and cracked field. Rest of surfaces were fine. Best bit was sitting in event village with a beer, in the sun listening to the music!

Excellent race from a runner's point of view. Great to have a single lap 10k course (improvement on my previous experience here in 2018) and really enjoyed the challenging mix of surfaces, with some nice flat sections, short hills and some steady climbs. My only gripe is with the policy of charging so much for spectators, especially for children (£10 and £7), which would really put me off bringing family along in the future. Otherwise, great crowds, lively athletes' village with a festival atmosphere, and great to feel part of a whole weekend of different events.

Brilliantly organised event in a truly stunning location. The pre-race briefings were brilliant, provided both online before the event and at the start line. It was very easy to navigate with marshals strategically placed, all giving out plenty of words of encouragement (much needed on the second lap!). Plenty of water stations again with friendly helpful marshals. Huge thanks to the marshal with the bright coloured leggings, dancing to her own music and heartily cheering us on - she was awesome! The course itself was a good mix of challenging and easy-going, with well kept gravel paths/grass paths and gentle hills. Also very impressed that the race director himself was at the finish line handing out medals - it was an honour to meet him.

A great venue with a super event village and a nice opportunity to run through the Castle Howard grounds and finish in front of the house. Found the half marathon to be a challenging trail run thanks to the crosswinds and the heat on some exposed sections. As others have mentioned, some of the route went over some pretty rough, sloggy sections of field which were very tough and a little disconcerting to run on - but balanced out by some lovely woodland tracks and views of the estate and it's various follies.
