My 5th time at Castle Howard race series. Its a great venue and great atmosphere. The crowds were a bit more thin on the ground than previous years due to the weather which was atrocious but the marshalls were superb, encouraging all competitors despite the conditions. I would definitely go again. Although some people complain about the lake, if you're prepared for weeds it's not too bad and it's such a privilege to swim at that iconic venue. The run is a trail run, not too hilly, fabulous scenary although very muddy this year. I love running through the castle grounds and gardens and past the main house to the finish. Seemed to be less food and drink vendors this year and the festival village was very quiet but I think that was mainly due to the weather. We always camp over so we can spectate other races and really enjoy the weekend. Will definitely be back!

Despite being warned by previous participants about the mucky water and of course the atrocious weather over the weekend, I really loved it. Didn’t like that long run up from the water. Perhaps that should have been separated from T1 time by adding another timing mat at transition. Makes it difficult to use the result to qualify with BTF Aquathlon events. I’d like to do Hever FOE next year but no info or early bird entry fees available.

It's great to hear you had such a great time racing with us at Howard this year! We really appreciate your feedback and we're looking at how we can improve the swim to T1 timing for next year's event. We're in the process of confirming dates for our FOE event and hope to be able to publish the booking page for this event soon. Happy racing!

Back for the 3rd year doing this event, despite the poor weather conditions I enjoyed the overall atmosphere, experience and challenging course.

Really well organised event in a great location, but the swim really spoiled it for me. I’ve swum outdoors plenty, but I wasn’t prepared for it to be so murky and smelly - it really threw me off. I was pretty surprised at the spectator fee, but I suppose since it gets you into the Castle Howard grounds (which are more expensive than the fee) then it makes sense.

The event was in a spectacular location, great views too! And easy to get too, marshals did a good job and the course was easy to understand and navigate! Only areas for improvement was none of the transition marshals knew about where aquathon transition was, and had to get the person in charge, the lake was not nice to swim in, it smelt and had tons of reeds there, and spectators had a big charge to come, so probably put off people coming to support leading to a small crowd and not a big atmosphere

However I’ll not be taking part again or recommending this swim location as the weeds were so disruptive I couldn’t enjoy the experience. I’ll be looking for different venues in future. Perhaps I’m a weedy wimp who knows.

Rachael, sorry to hear of your negative experience. Unfortunately we clear the lake as best as possible but it is open water swimming! Castle Race Series

I’ve not participated in a multi sport event for some time but what a great weekend. Family of 4, one competing in the Duathlon on a Saturday and me in the Aquathon on Sunday. We camped so made full use or the surroundings. Camping gave easy parking and access to the event village which was great for our daughters who came with us. Music, food, beautiful surroundings and a great play park. The event itself very well organised and well supported by Marshall’s. I always get worried I’ll get lost on the run but no chance of that. Thanks for a great weekend .

A really enjoyable event. I felt well informed by the pre-event info and briefings and the whole event seems very well organised. A beautiful location and run route and there were plenty of water & feed stations. The event village was well set out and the sound quality was good- rare in outdoor events. We could clearly hear the announcements and the names and details of the finishers. The band was good, and again, at the right volume! Thank you. I hope to return next year.
