They banned any stroke on your back with the only advanced notice being the day of. Nothing was listed on their website or said during the pre race talk the night before. I get why it was banned, but the lack of advanced notice was ridiculous as this is not a standard thing to ban in triathlons. Most of the lifeguards were godsends as I was very unprepared for the swim. One lifeguard, however, was very demeaning. It was my first open water swim and I was struggling to adjust (an oversight on my part to not come prepared). A lifeguard kept telling me to “just put your face in the water” and tried to teach me how to swim. I was borderline hyperventilating and almost lost it on her. That’s the last thing someone needs in that moment. Aid stations were lacking. The run had a good amount, but there were none after the swim and none on the bike. Their website outlines exactly where the aid stations are so this wasn’t a surprise, but still a let down.

This is our favorite triathlon of the year. Perfect little overnight get away. There is hotel, campground, and restaurant right around the transition area. Park and race. Beautiful lake and scenic run. Awesome race.
