Wow! What an event!! - this was my first ultra challenge as it seems to be tradition in my friendship group this is the race you start with to achieve your first ultra distance. I originally signed up to the J12 before upgrading to the J24 with easy communication through email, fast responses and quick problem solving. The day of the event: pre event set up was great, the location was lovely and the views are stunning. The communication is quick easy and impactful, collection the bib was super fast and the team are fantastic at answering any questions you have. The course is a great challenge, the mix of long grass, to fields, to lanes to roads to trail is a good challenge for someone getting into ultra running as it gives you practice and feel for all things under your feet. The checkpoints are well ran, and the people working them always high energy and have a laugh and chat as you go by. I can not fault this race, the vibes are great and if you are getting into ultra running this is a fantastic format to practice getting in the distance - 102 baby!

Pre race info could have been a bit earlier and more detailed to help first timers, but questions were quickly responded to on WhatsApp. Very much a bring your own nutrition race with only water provided but works well as you can restock on every loop. Looking forward to doing this again in future.

I loved how inclusive the race was, a 24h race is intimidating prospect but all the staff and the other participants were friendly, welcoming and supportive. The route was well marked and I felt safe even at night as a solo female. The facilities were super convenient, I had constant access to water and clean loos which as a kidney transplant recipient was really important. I will be coming back next year to get more miles in!!

A few issues stand out for me. Food provision is a single burger van, which isnt there all 24 hours. So when I decided to call it a day, I was told there was no more food on the venue till 6am. Aid stations were water only, my email told me there would be squash and cola for the 24 hour competitiors but I didnt see any. After taking part in LDWA events which are far cheaper, and provide more food, this soured it a little for me. As a result I dont think I'll be back for the Joust unless some of these issues are looked at. I did the Cymoedd Sir Fynwy which was run over 24 hours. Admittedly without camping, but there were hot meals available at two main checkpoints throughout the event. Competitor tents are near the lap start, which is good. But they are close to the main marquee - bad .. noise and light throughout the night. Ideally they'd have been in the empty space just after the timing gate, where it was far quieter. Trying to sleep with people stood in groups by your tent, talking loudly and shining head torches in, wasnt optimal. Moving the competitior tent pitches over slightly would have helped and kept them close at hand for people My tent also leaked slightly. The course is a great course for 24 hour events, but I think some of the logistics need looking at. I paid over £120 all told and I think there could have been some more work done to fine tune the event. Like food available throughout the nioght

What really set this event apart was the photographer, I was amazed to see her run ahead of me to get the perfect shot, everyone who asks me about the event admire the quality of pictures I have. Friendly & welcoming atmosphere, Big Trev was fantastic.

I found the event amazing, it was my first 24 hour event. The location, staff, martials and racers were all wonderful. I did have one mention about the route. The section after the tarmac heading into the main farm building before the pond I came across another runner in the middle of the night which had slowed down to a walk so that we would go past the staff smoking area together as she didn't feel comfortable doing it alone in the middle of the night. Maybe this could be a checkpoint after certain hours so a race marshal is there or the course alterd to avoid that area. I personally felt safe but though I would mention it. This is my second year running this event. I love it! This is a great event for someone wanting to know just how far they can go. I managed 90 miles this year and has given me the prompt to think about going for my 100miler next year. But back to this event. Registration and...

This is my second year running this event. I love it! This is a great event for someone wanting to know just how far they can go. I managed 90 miles this year and has given me the prompt to think about going for my 100miler next year.

But back to this event. Registration and briefing were very good and the campsite which is the base for the 24 hours is very good. There is a burger van and someone doing massages throughout the whole event. Solos have the ability to camp right on the route and can help themselves to a lot of cake, sweets and bits at the timing checkpoint. I have mentioned solos this event is also very good for teams from 2-8 people.

The race itself is midday to midday on a course that’s very well marked. Covering trails and a small bit of road and not to hilly at just over 5.5 miles. There were additional water checkpoints on route.

Both years I have run this I have seen amazing competitors with their own goals and plans. Everyone is friendly and the Marshall’s were brilliant. If you are alone the event also has knights that accompany runners so they are not alone as they clock up the miles.

The event ends at midday with a very good presentation ceremony with plenty of awards. A lot of people stayed for this which is quite rare these days. The medal is very good and was provided with a T-shirt on arrival. Any runner achieving 100 miles also receives a buckle. Again another nice touch. Thank you ultra running for a great event.
