Great setting. Bike and run felt tough. Good atomosphere.

Hi Jim Thank you for taking the time to review the Birmingham Triathlon. We know the bike course was rough, the run course is quite a good challenge though. Hope to see you again soon and well done.

I do love this event. Sutton Park is the most beautiful Heathland setting in all of Birmingham. The Birmingham Triathlon is easy to access, the organisers are relaxed and down to earth. It would be good to have a smoother and lengthier bike track, there are lots of pot holes on the bike course (8 loops of one track for the Olympic Distance it maybe 6 loops too many, are there any alternative 2 loop routes?). It could also benefit from a lengthier run track, again 2 loops, same type of terrain. The fewer loops I have to count the better. The whole event wouldn't feel out of place in the Caribbean, such is it's chilled out mood. It has just enough to keep you interested and looking back it does feel special, given the lovely mixed terrain conditions of the final run. A great Triathlon for people who aren't too serious, a great triathlon for those new to the discipline.

Hi David Thank you for taking the time out to review the triathlon, we as organisers love this race. You're right about the setting it is beautiful. We try externally hard to cater for everyone, whether you're new to our sport or you're a seasoned triathlete. As you may have heard in my race brief, we are desperately trying to get the bike course resurfaced with Birmingham City Council. We have been banging on their door now for some time. We won't give up because we know what a great race it is. Hope to see you at one of our races soon David and thank you.

Not fantastic but a good race for starters

The race organisation was excellent and the location was great for my first Olympic distance event. I would have rated the course higher. We warned about the pot holes but was shocked at the number of people who came off their bike. I took care through the chicance as per marshall's advice.

I was thrilled with my sub 3 hour time, I didn't mind the laps as it was great for spectators (didn't approve of people walking their dog down the middle of the course!) and scenary was nice. However as this was my 1st event of this distance you can imagine my disappointment to discover that the Bike course and Run course came up short. I feel slighly cheated that to be advertised as an Olympic distance it was actually sub 40km and 10km respectively. I would have preferred for the course to be longer (additional lap) if that ensured the full distance. Otherwise I would participate again :)

Hi Daniel Thank you for taking the time out to review The Birmingham Triathlon and thank you for your comments. The bike course: I hope you heard in the race brief, we are trying desperately hard to get it resurfaced with Birmingham City Council, I have had countless meetings and email conversations with them but to date they are saying they do not have the funds. Its very hard for us to take sometimes because we know it is such a great race. Spectators, well they can be a pain where ever you go, I know when I take part in events. The bike course is slightly shorter than 40k for the reason and recommendations from BT, the turn by the Jamboree Stone was made shorter on safety grounds, I will address this for next year. As for the run course, well that should have been spot on, I measured it with our GPS and measuring wheel. Also here is a link to the website we use for measuring courses: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/23534605 Thank you Daniel and we hope to see you at our events in 2018 :)

Poor quality surface for the bike leg. Pot holes everywhere, multiple crashes. Boring 8 lap route too. Wouldnt take part again.

"Closed to traffic bike course on resurfaced tarmac roads within the park"

This is an exerpt from UK-Tri's course description. I don't think this is quite correct - the Council are still yet to resurface the park hence there being yellow spray paint all over the course, and me losing a water bottle. Hopefully this can be sorted for next year, as it's my local event and it's good fun for the most part!

This was my first and will definitely not be my last. Felt very well organised and carefully thought out. Course was well signed and the atmosphere from marshalls, competitors and spectators was brilliant. Sutton park is a beautiful venue.

It was my first Triathlon, and I had a great time. I'll be entering more now. I loved the atmosphere and people, both spectators and other athletes pushing you on. Thoroughly enjoyable.
