I've done the Bill Fox Round the Resers race 4 times now in the last five years. It's a low key event raising money for local childrens charities and is the sister event to the fabulous Gravy Pud Fell Race in December.

Registration is at the United Utitilies customer centre just outside of Tintwhistle (Glossop) with the race itself starting on the service road immediately outside. Number collection and commemorative mugs were available at the start (the mugs were a tradition although t-shirts were given out over the last couple of years). All very straightforward.

Starting briefing would have benefited from a loud-hailer; I wasn't too far from the marshal providing the briefing but it was still very hard to hear what was said.

The race sets off down the service road to Bottoms Reservoir and then it's two complete laps to make the 5 mile distance. Marshals were all in the places where needed with a dedicated cheer squad at the top of the hill!

Paths are all mud-packed trails but as usual road shoes were absolutely fine. It's a reasonably quick course with the up-hill being quite short and the downhill a gentle drop over a much longer distance.

A wide range of abilities taking part so it's suitable for all abilities.

Still awaiting official results (it's an £8 race with everything done by hand) but it's my quickest time of the 4 attempts so it was another great night running Round the 'Resers.

Round the Resers is a 5 mile trail race around Valehouse reservoir in Hadfield, Glossop (High Peak).

Registration is online but all numbers and t-shirts are collected from registration which was smooth and well organised.

The race briefing was succinct although difficult to hear (although I actually did hear it this year) and would benefit from a loud-hailer although there isn't much to cover as the route is clear.

The course is essentially 2 laps of the reservoir with a single water station at the half-way point at the start of the second lap.

This is a great low-key race for those wanting to try a straightforward trail race. It could easily be tackled in road shoes and the route is obvious with little or no chance of getting lost. Whilst not flat it's not particularly hilly (there's one hill which you tackle twice) and at 5 miles in length it's well within the capabilities of anyone who's run a 10k.

Great value too.

its a very popular event and well supported. Organisation, registration and marshaling all spot on. If there was any criticism it's that the race briefing was too quiet to be heard, a megaphone might have helped there.

the route is trail paths mostly but fine in road shoes.it undulates a bit with a definite climb (done twice) and longer descent.

previous years the first 200 finishers got a mug. This year everyone got a tech t shirt.

All for 12 quid. Makes you wonder what some of the bigger name events are playing at..!

highly recommended.
