Unfortunately, my experience at this race was seriously marred by an incident of unacceptable behaviour. During the race, I was deliberately shoved forcefully in the back with both hands by a male runner. I couldn’t see a marshal nearby to report the incident to at the time.
I reported what happened to the organisers afterwards, but I was disappointed by their response. Although they apologised and referred to their zero-tolerance policy, they suggested there was little they could do unless the incident had been caught on camera, as the runner could simply deny it. I felt there was little practical support offered or indication that they would try to investigate the incident. As a woman taking part in a race, it was upsetting to experience this behaviour and disappointing not to feel that my report was being meaningfully acted upon.
On a more basic organisational note, there was also no toilet paper in the women’s toilets.
It’s a shame that these issues overshadowed the race itself. I would have hoped for better support and a more proactive response to a report of potentially dangerous behaviour from another participant.
