Unfortunately the weather was appalling for this race. Pretty much torrential rain all the morning. The course is quite flat with pb potential but, alas, not for me.. Couldn't really rate the views as the weather had closed in so much. Well organised, marshals were superb in the conditions, and the medal was great.

Having had the luxury of staying at a friend's house in the town the night before the race, I was only a short walk away from the race HQ. However, there appeared to be ample parking on site.

The registration process was simple and there was space to move despite the rain keeping people indoors. The only minor disappointment was not having a bag drop facility despite the space available.

The rumours were that this is a PB course, even with some small inclines along the way. Given it was my first time round this course and the weather wet and slightly breezy, I wasn't holding my breath for one.

With the race briefing out the way and a brief, group warm up, the race got under way. The start was wide and allowed the field to spread quickly. Although not all roads were fully closed to traffic, the Marshalls did a great job and the runners were all without headphones for safety. 

I had my slow alert set on.my Garmin to see if I could beat my PB but the steady climb at 3 & 4 Km were a struggle. Thankfully the course then heads back downhill and onto the Somerset levels with nice long straights. 

I kept my eye on the pacing and with just 2km to go, wasn't sure if I could maintain the pace. With the finish line up a short hill, before looping back in around the race HQ, I was still hopeful. When I saw the Finish line and the clock time, my eyes lit up and I sprinted home. 22 seconds off and a new PB that put a big smile on my face!!

A quick trip to the timing tent for a print out, a bit of water melon and off indoors to collect my bag and dry off. The race medal is top quality and the support from locals and the Marshalls was great.

Well done Langport Runners!

We seem to of been waiting for Battle of Sedgemore 10k for ages, we’ve been out a few times to practice the route, in small groups, joining the Langport Runners for a medal Wednesday, as well as an on mass practice in the rain the other Monday.

In the end 16 (and Mark) signed up for the event and made there way to Huish on Sunday Morning. The weather was blistering, and the line for numbers was a bit manic, with over 400 runners taking part, admin took the brunt of the success, but coped okay in the end, and the start was only delayed for 5-10 minutes.

Before long Nikki Small the RD was out on the balcony, dishing out race instructions in her own formidable style. After a quick cheesy warm up (I don’t do warm ups!) we were off.

I won’t go in to a blow by blow route dissection, but after a busy first Half a kilometre the pack spread out enough to get into a good groove, kilometre two and three both see the two big climbs of the course, but running on the marshalled road was a lot nicer than open to traffic the last time we did it.

Once the second hill is out the way, the turn onto the quiet country lanes is the enjoyable part of the run, weaving through the quiet villages, sneaking in a water spot just after 5.5k and heading back to Huish via Mulcheney.

Heading back to the school and across the great balloon finish line. All in all a great road race, brilliant support from spectators on route and well organised and marshalled by the Langport Runners, add ice cream truck, burger wagon, lovely cakes, oh and a brilliant medal, and all in all a great local race.

The BHAM! Runners, crossed the line in style, with plenty of PB’s, and support from and for each other… and looking awesome in our new vests… glad they arrived in time!
