First and most important, this was a lovely event, the weather was perfect, the marshals exceptionally cheerful and encouraging, and the route, though hilly, is delightful, including historic Winchester as well as quiet countryside and the pretty village of Hursley. Second, the organisers faced some difficulties though no fault of their own: there was an incident on the M3 motorway which led to long delays and among the vehicles stuck in traffic was a critical part of the traffic management team (as well as quite a few runners). This meant a delay to the start of 1 hr 15 minutes; it could have been longer and credit to the organisers and volunteers for all their hard work adapting to the circumstances and enabling the race to go ahead. All that said, there were a few little things that could have been better. I'm pretty sure some of the mile signs were missing, maybe stuck on the motorway? It's a race with nearly 1,000 runners but only the first three male and female get prizes; it seems a shame to me, as an older runner, that there are no age category awards, and even the results page shows age categories in 10 year bands; 5 year bands are fairer in my opinion. Goody bag was just a banana and a plastic bottle of water; Starbucks gave us a free drink on sight of the medal which was nice but in general it feels a bit ungenerous. Nevertheless, great race and well worth running, and I can't speak highly enough of the volunteers (including the pacers who were fab).
