Could definitely improve in key areas to make the event much better It was advertised as a gravel event, but was mainly roads, perhaps as much as 70%. It felt as though the event had been tagged onto the Cornwall 100 road sportive, with a first half of pleasant roads but no gravel, mainly following the Kernow Way. In the second half, the Tinner’s Way was swampy and not really suitable for gravel bikes — we were told at the start that a bike-hike might well be needed here, and the staff member delivering the briefing admitted to falling off and hurting his back trying it out. Some ‘gravel’ sections were short detours. Compared with the Devon Grit, which I have ridden three times and found thrilling, this was a mixture of passable road, frustrating swamp and a few (but far too few) enjoyable gravel sections. There was a low turnout — maybe 30 riders when I started. Additional payment for parking made this an expensive ride for what was, in part, a self-navigation of sections of the Kernow Way. I wouldn’t sign up for this again unless it changed dramatically — I think these sorts of rides need to offer something that you can’t experience on your own — new routes and imaginative design. Staff at the start and at feed stations were pleasant and encouraging, and added some positives to the experience. There was fantastic scenery. But, ultimately, it is the quality of the route that it is important.

Great event - some hard sections with amazing coastal view rewards. Great effort on feed stations, manned by happy volunteers. Catered for allergies well - loved the brownies and flapjacks!

Great event, challenging route at times but beautiful way to explore the coastline off road. Felt the single track climb up the coast path wasn’t suitable as so many walkers made it impossible to try to ride and section across the moors defo could have done with a mountain bike but loved the challenge and sunny still day couldn’t have been better. The food station at St Just wasn’t there but yummy brownie at the final food stop!!

Tinners way on a gravel bike with 40mm tyres was intense.
