Incredibly well organised race with the most friendly and welcoming people. For their first ever event I'm really impressed!
Communication before the event was great, with clear instructions and guidance sent out by email, and the team were responsive to any questions asked. On the day the sign in was smooth and the race briefing was very thorough including reference to the She Races guidelines and their efforts to minimise environmental impacts (as a member of The Green Runners, this was great to hear). The shuttle bus to the start worked well and gave an opportunity to connect with the other runners as well as cut down on car journeys.
The route was stunning as expected, the coast path always delivers and it was a fantastic experience to race on it. I was fortunate to also spend most of the race running with Dan at the front. Each of the two aid stations were very well stocked with a variety of proper food, gels, sweets and an excellent selection for vegans which I greatly appreciated. The salted potatoes were my favourite, with homemade brownie a close second. All the volunteers were lovely. After finishing, we were greeted with a fresh cooked chilli that went down a treat. Since I stayed for a couple hours waiting for my club mate I got to witness the lengths that Dan and Katie went to ensure that all participants were safe and counted for. They were always keeping an eye on the trackers and were quick to phone a runner if they went off course or stopped for a longer than normal time.
Overall, I had a fantastic day at the SCS ultra and I would highly recommend taking part in one of Orion's future events. The EXND in March might be a bit too far for me, but I've already offered to help volunteer! I'll be back at SCS next year to take the win ;)
