The second half of the course was not signposted at ALL. Despite being told by organizers at registration that every fork in the course would have either a sign or marshall, there were about 8 points in the second half of the course where there weren't, and I had to guess which way to go. Resulted in running almost a full km more, and an inaccurate chip time. Also, medals said "marathon" not "half marathon", and post-race goodie bags had NONE of the swag advertised when signing up and paying for the race. Reviews from last year shows they had all this feedback last year, and they haven't changed anything. The announcer also made an immature 2005-era "gay" joke about the pink t-shirts before the race start, which was highly inappropriate - as an LGBT person running my first ever half marathon, absolutely not what I wanted to kick things off. The rest of the staff were friendly and lovely, and aid stations were wonderful and well-stocked.

All in all good fun, a beautiful course, helpful and friendly organisers. The race was quite small (just over 100 runners) but sufficiently competetive. The course could have been better marked along the way, there were a few times I was not sure which way to go, and at one point I actually went the wrong way, but was luckily called by by a runner behind me. I appreciate that with limited funding due to the size organisation is tricky, and it is a good idea to keep it within the park to limit logistical organisation. Well organised start and finish point, bag drop ok, toilets nearby start/finish, a few refreshment stations (ok in the cold weather, could have been insufficient if warmer). Very nice medal (!) and t-shirt at finish. All in all I would give it 4 out of 5, with space for some small improvements.

Friendly organisers and start. Nice atmosphere at finish with water, juice and food. My main feedback concerns the marking of the route. This was not well done. Flags, signs and marshalls were sparse and sometimes, for example at forks on the route, non existent. Because there were few participants, it was sometimes very difficult to know of you were indeed still on the right course.

Pre-announced race map was incorrect, resulted in failed pace/nutrition plans. No water station in the last 8km, which is almost the half of the race. Water wasn’t handed out to runners, we had to stop and find a spot among other runners to find our opportunity to grab a cup. We had to bypass a 100m of the route due to flood by entering a thorny bush area causing wounds on our legs. There were missing route signs on several junctions leading runners toward wrong paths. The route was not secured at all. Local people/vehicles/cycles in the park weren’t informed of the race being held. We were aggressively over taken by gravel riders, almost tripped over free roaming pets/kids several times, were driven directly into by cars, had to cut through the cafe queue and its crowd at Pen Ponds Cafe. The “goodie bag” highly praised over to explain the event entry fee on their website ended up being a clear bin bag consisting of an apple, a brochure and mini Cadbury’s (instead of mugs, pens, magazines etc. as advertised).

I did the Richmond Half marathon for the first time today. I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Genius idea to put out mini eggs at the 9 mile feed station. Greatfully received! There was a car park and toilets right next door, so no massive walks to the start. Very helpful marshalls and a warm welcome into the finish. Nice munchies in the goody bag and I even got a t-shirt that fits along with a medal! Would definitely do again.
