My virgin Hilly Hundred was incredible. Thankfully, the pre-race correspondence gave specific travel instructions, which meant access to Sparsholt college was seamless. Being met by an army of Marshalls directing cars to parking spaces, and being mindful of pedestrian traffic simultaneously set the scene for an amazing day of racing.
Despite not receiving my pre-race email informing me of my Rider number, registration in the morning was remarkably accommodating, well signposted and quickly handled. I was in and out in less than a minute.
The weather held out also, and though the race organisers warned of potholes, there was very little enroute. Every turn was signposted clearly, and the feed station(s), albeit just the one doubling up as 1st & 2nd stop-over, was well stocked, with plenty of encouraging staff to spur me on. My only minor criticism here was the lack of insistance on rider hygiene prior to partaking of the delights, or serving tongues to negate the need.
I am certainly hoping to return next year, and have already notified my bike club to consider adding this Sportive to our calendar.
