I’m 45, and am not naturally athletic and I chose the event knowing it was a very challenging tri, but I love a trail run and an ocean swim vs a flat road run so it seemed right. It was my first Standard (and I’ve only done one Sprint before many years ago), so I was very nervous and my goal was just complete. Kelly and the team absolutely blew me away - truly such an amazing group, I felt compelled to write! I crossed the finish line last (as expected) and at no time did I ever feel left behind, I was made to feel like any other competitor. Every marshal was INCREDIBLE; they stayed on the course until I completed, were so supportive, offering constant smiles, telling me I was doing great and smashing it. As I ran up the very last hill (so was exhausted) one marshal was yelling at me at the top of her lungs that “I was winning at life”. She made me laugh and gave me the push I needed! A man in an event vehicle driving the final 6 miles of the bike leg making sure we knew where we were going, the man with water bottles on the first run incline. Too many marshals to mention - but all the smiles and comments so often helped me get around. Kelly gave me and my husband a bottle of prosecco for completing and coming in last, which was a really nice touch.
