The event was well run with a good course and organisation. The communications before the event were nice and clear. Getting into the event was easy, with good directions. It's worth getting there early for parking. Booking in again was nice and easy with option for a bag drop. Everything about the event setup gives you a nice and high quality feel about it. The race start was ok. A little more heads up about a staggered start would have been good so you're not standing around cooling down. Still, decent pumping music helps get you in an energetic mood. The course was pretty good. Undulating with differing terrain. A few choke points that really penalised you for not starting at the front of the group. Still, it was well marked and fun to run. The post run village had great offering of food and coffee and a nice fire pit. It had a nice friendly feel to it. A decent end to a good race.

Reall good fun, thank you! Minor niggle at the start getting through the two gates, but otherwise a great course.

Good race and course. Tough in places. Issues were: 1) Two bottle necks within 500m of start caused 5min+ delay 2) not enough signage on the course - for long parts there were no signs to reinforce you were on the right route. Other events I have done have a 10 second rule, where there is a sign approximately every 10 seconds or 50ish meters so that you know you are on the right path. 3) not enough stewards - I felt that they were only at the road crossings and not every 1km. If someone was in trouble it would be hard to find a steward to help as they were so far apart.

Hi Craig - many thanks for taking the time to feedback your experience on Saturday! Agreed - the pinchpoints early on were certainly more of a problem than we anticipated and we’re working on a fix for that next year. Regarding signage, we pride ourselves on the level of signage provided and rarely get left negative feedback on the volume we put out but I will feedback to the team on course to understand if there were gasp. On marshals - we really only only position them where they need to be…especially on the Dark events we have to consider the welfare of the volunteers having them out in the dark alone in bad weather and hope that in the event of any issues runners would report issues to us from the engender contact numbers on their bib numbers where we can then respond if needed. All feedback though is welcomed as we strive to improve in every way we can. Thanks again

The Maverick Exposure Lights Dark Surrey was great, really enjoyed it. Apart from one thing - at the first set of kissing-gates (around 600m into the run), those of us on the long route were queueing to get through, one-by-one. The leaders of the middle route (who started a few minutes after the long route runners) then pushed past us all, claiming they were racing the 10k as if that gave them the permission to barge past, get ahead and through the date before the rest of us. What did they think the rest of us were doing queueing and what gives them the right to think their race is more important than ours? The leaders of races (or those who aspire to be at the front) are often arses and this just proves the point. For a race with a really nice atmosphere, the leaders need to get in the spirit of things. Perhaps there should be no plaudits or prizes for anyone who wins races, and just taking part for taking part's sake rather than this two-tier system of self-appointed importance.

Thanks Andy- many thanks for taking the time to review your race with us on Saturday. We fully recognise the issue we had early on with congestion and are working on a plan to Rectify that next year. Thanks once again and hope to see you again. We are all advocates of participation and enjoyment, but we do also have to recognise different people reasons for running and racing. We feel if we sort the congestion at the the start would remove other potential issues. Thanks again.

Great event, always fun atmosphere, well marked up. I would prefer wider trails for first 2 to 3 km so faster runners can overtake.

Thanks Kim - half you had run at the weekend and for next year we’re working on a fix for the early congestion. Wider trails are alway our preference at the start of the race, but this location is tricky on that front. Hopefully see you again soon.

Good fun but a LOT more challenging than advertised. I am nursing a sprained ankles and there was stories of broken bones. Massive thanks to the first aider!

Thanks Chris - thanks for feedback your experience of Saturday….we fully recognise the issues with congestion at the start and have a fix for next year. Ankle rolls etc are just some of the risks with running trails in the Dark, but luckily I can confirm just the one broken finger at the weekend! Safely is paramount to us so any reported injuries are not take lightly and review to mitigate any potential future issues. Thanks again!
