This one is a tricky one for me to review because I had some hiccups with my race number. I'll address those first then get onto my proper review.
My race number didn't arrive. I had to pay £10 for a new number even though I hadn't lost the first. Then it seems that anyone with a replacement number wasn't registered on the system so I don't have an official time and my family weren't able to track my race. This was disappointing.
But, saying that, I had an amazing time at the race.
Pros (in no particular order)
- Brilliant medal
- Great tech tshirt
- Flattish route so good to get the legs going
- Pint of alcohol free beer at the end!
- Utterly brilliant local support all along the route
- Marvellous marshals
Cons
- Poor goodie bag - medal in the bag rather than handed to you, a vile health bar thing and tshirt. That was it.
- I wasn't handed any water as I finished
- First toilets weren't until 9k, which I think is a really long way in when you've waited at the start
- Coloured bins but lettered start pens so you had to have looked up what colour corresponded with which letter in advance
- Last pacer was 2:15. I do wish big races would have pacers for us party pace folk.
- Although bag drop itself wasn't an issue, I didn't like having to wear a wristband which irritated as a got sweaty. Much better to have corresponding number to your race number.
So, overall this was a positive experience once I'd managed to get my race number and get there. But the customer service running up to the race was poor.
