For the inaugural running of the Bedford Half Marathon this was an extremely well organised event.
This is very local for me and the majority of the route is on my regular running path so no traffic to worry about.
At the start the runners decide which wave to start in based on assumed finishing time with wave leaving every 5 minutes.
The route was wide enough to run freely until you start on the second loop at approx. 4.5 miles where you have to overtake the slower runners. This continues until mile 8 where you start to head back to Bedford.
The lap of Priory Park Lake seems to last forever, you go onto the grass and you are glad to see the 400m to go sign and the mass of supporters and music that awaits.
After the finish you can relax on the straw bales with a fresh baked pizza to reward your efforts, in my case an 8 minutes Half Marathon PB!!!
I am not sure how much differently I would have reviewed the event if we had poor weather as some of the course is on muddy footpaths and grass.
I will be doing this event again.
