This is a hard review to write because the race has been taken over by the Dougie Mac Hospice, a local charity which does so much good for the local community.
The problem is this was not a 'charity' race or certainly wasnt meant to be. It got postponed last year due to a 'cyber attack (which I'm still sceptical was a true story) - and good on the DMH for taking it on. However there were 'corner cuts' that made the event seem 'amateur'. Like I said that seems unfair as it was for 'charity' but I feel it right to review it like any other race.
Positives :
* Local community support & supportive ethos - like a charity fun day or village fair feel
* Easy course to navigate.
* Good use of local Parkrun route.
* Raises money for good cause.
* Small amount of runners (approx 500) meant easy to find your own pace quickly
* Coffee and snacks on site - cheap
To be improved:
* Too much 'marketing' materials through post. A great cause but no need to ram it down people's throats
* Despite all this postage , bib numbers still needed collecting in person (cost cutting).
* Poor medal - let's remember we paid over two years ago. I think about £26. This medal will be hung but not remembered.
*No tshirt unless you paid more.
* Billed as closed roads but poorly marshalled at times meant cars push through and around runners.
