← Thornbury 10k

This was my second race of the year (having completed the Riverbank Rollick in January) with Thornbury Running Club and it didn't fail to live up to high standard i was expecting overall, however, this event did pose a few below par issues.

Registration quick, simple and easy - with OUTSTANDING value for money in terms of a timed race, a bespoke medal (part of a series of 3) and rugby club faciliites including a bar for those wanting liquid refreshment post race (although some were enjoying a pint PRE RACE in the registration hall!)

The facebook event was well updated before with the processes and safety brief for the night, however, at the race this become irrelevant. The person giving the pre race brief needed to seize control of the crowd of eager runners so that people further out than 2 metres could hear him - at least I think he was talking to us as I couldn't catch a word. The walk to the start line was disorganised with a large number INCLUDING Thornbury Running Club members walking down the middle of the road, with one runner even laying on the floor stretching before the starters orders when a car wanted to come past - this really needs more monitoring as if the home club racers are doing it then others follow. More marshalls keeping people in line would help here and yes i appreciate these are volunteers but a more forceful approach would be nice and keep the cars following a bit easier than runners taking up the whole road.

Course was undulating and a tough challenge - not very unique or scenic when compared to other local 10k races or the Riverbank Rollick also offered by Thornbury RC, however, it was easy to navigate with a water station about half way round on the A38.

Would enter this event again as overall I enjoyed it and was a great turn out for the club I belong to - unfinished business on this course
