← Swansea Half Marathon

Took the park and ride to get to the start as thought it would be less stressful than trying to park in Swansea with road closures etc but this turned out to be a big mistake! Despite getting to park and ride nice and early ended up queuing in the rain for about 40 minutes with no information as to next bus and no organisation to try and prioritise runners. We ended up getting to the start with less than 10 minutes to spare.

Once at the start things were much better with the two separate wave starts clearly marked out and easy to get into - didn't see any separate pens when I got into my wave but might be because we were so late. Race seemed to start pretty promptly and it didn't take long to get over the line - for a big city race this didn't feel crowded at all.

The route is a simple out and back - up towards the mumbles on the road and then turn round and back down beach promenade. This meant you had stunning sea views most of the way and you could see slower / faster runners at about five different points which was great for cheering on club mates but a bit disheartening when I spotted the lead runner at mile 9 when I was only at about mile 5! The course is almost entirely flat too so good pb potential. There was also plenty of support around the route and loads of volunteers with organised and well-stocked water stations.

The medal is a cracking design and I also loved the bright pink t-shirts though shame they were unisex because they are always too big! The goodie bag was also decent with plenty of yummy snacks.

Thought this race was really well organised and good value for money and would definitely do it again.
