A rare summer duathlon, and on a sunny day too!
Set in the small village of Stetchworth on the outskirts of Newmarket, this duathlon was accessible, friendly and fun.
Had the weather been different, trail shoes would have been needed. I arrived with both and checked the run route the night before. The first run is about 2/3 road, but the 1/3 off-road is along the side of a corn field and is quite rocky in parts. Also, the two laps of the field to start would be slippery in the wet. The second run is across a corn field and then along part of the same track as previously, about 1/2 road/off-road.
The cycle route is undulating, on open country roads. It wasn't too busy in terms of traffic, and the marshalls were excellent.
The goodybag was great, but maybe add a couple of pounds to the entry fee and provide a medal too?
Parking was easy, in a field across the road. Registration was quick. A real mixed field - I was concerned I might be last when I looked at times from previous years. Everyone was very friendly, and supporters stayed to welcome back those finishing towards the end of the field.
