← Staunton Harold Triathlon

This was the first year of the SH triathlon and I really hope to see it become an annual fixture as it's an extremely well organised and safe event. The triathlon is either sprint or super sprint distance - I did the super sprint, which was a bit longer than others that I've done in the past and felt somewhere between a super sprint and sprint distance, but that may be to do with the layout of the course.

The swim is open water - the plan was to swim in the larger lake but due to plant and algae we swam in the smaller lake. The only downside was that there were lots of weeds in the water but it's a natural lake and not generally used for open water swimming.

The cycle was around the SH estate and local roads. The route was well-marshalled and signposted. The course was undulating with some climbs, and although these weren't too steep, my lack of practice over the past few weeks really showed!

The run was a good 4k route on gravel paths though the forest. It was a relatively flat and fast route. The water station was at the start of the course and drinks were in pleftiful supply. Upon finishing, we received a t-shirt and medal, plus energy gels. Marshall support and organisation was excellent, as was the support from spectators who cheered everyone on. The event was really friendly and highly enjoyable

In summary, a great triathlon that will hopefully become an annual event. Thanks to all who helped make it a success!
